Hey Birt! | A 1581 Refurb that is nearly a disaster. Will we get it working? @HeyBirt | Uploaded June 2022 | Updated October 2024, 7 minutes ago.
Video sponsor: PCBWay: $5 for 2 layer PCBs with 24hr turnaround at pcbway.com

In this video we do a complete refurbishment of a Commodore 1581 3.5” disk drive. This 1581 came out late in the C64/C128 life cycle but offered owners of those machines a comparatively large amount of storage per disk. It shares the same 3.5” drive mechanism with early Amigas with a built-in interface PCB for the C= IEC serial bus.

The restoration was going along swimmingly until it was noticed that the write protect/enable switches were not working properly. An attempt to fix them was a near disaster. Will we get the drive running again? Join us and find out.
