SPRING | Reorchestration for #scorerelief2021 Andreas Zoeller 2021-01-11 | Hey everybody! Starting off 2021 with a composition contest!I'm actually really excited to show you this, not only because the guys from The Cue Tube built a great platform to find some amazing unscored clips to orchestrate yourself, but it's also the first time I've ever orchestrated a real movie scene! Score Relief is also raising funds for people in the UK, which are affected by the pandemic, so it's also for a good cause!There are so many things I've learned by just listening to the movies I watch. For example Disney movies taught me to orchestrate movements and ask myself the question: What sound does a grinning dog make? Or what instruments should I use to make these gigantic trees seem even heavier? I tried to time the music to the movements on screen like the trees awakening and their stomping in the chasing scene.Coming from popmusic songwriting and listening to John Williams on the other hand taught me how important it is to have a clear melody and leitmotifs. In the beginning of the movie the girl plays a melody on the trees sensors(?), which happenes off screen in this version of the film, but it is a clear melody, which I tried to incorporate in the score. It's played by the woodwinds whenever the girl "activates" her stick. The oboes also play the melody in the background once the tree guys start to walk out of the foggy valley. Also the lack of speech made me wanting to give the trees an organic "voice", so I recorded a hell load of "Hummm"s to give the greatness of the trees the honor they deserve. You can also hear some percussive "huh"s in the chasing scene.I really hope you like my take on this beautiful movie scene made by the Blender Foundation guys. The visuals and the sound design of this short film is just breathtaking with so much attention to all the tiny details. So, here's a little story: Recently my friends and I discovered Disney plus, so I was rewatching all the old classic titles that I remembered watching when I was a little kid. Part of the reason was that I haven't been feeling very well lately. I was struggeling with seasonal mood swings, but also I felt like working like a factory. Minecraft, but its a movie opening scene Andreas Zoeller 2020-07-21 | Originally I only wanted to upload the audio track, like I did in the last video, but as I was searching for a scene to capture for this track, I noticed that flying around a Minecraft Suburb would be perfect for this. I grew up with these american happy family movies. They always started out peacefully flying over the city, where the scenes would take place and I always found it fascinating how such minimalistic content could evoke these many feelings. As I was on the search for a Minecraft map I found out about the Greenfield project, which is a team of creative builders that built and are still building the biggest Minecraft city. That map was perfect for what I had in mind and I'm really thankful a map like this exists! Thank you, Greenfield Team, for making this possible!After I recorded all of the takes and cut them as I wanted them to be, I watched the clip a few times and then out of nowhere began improvising to tell a little story over the music. I only concentrated on the first part of the piece, because I think it's such a strong melody and I wanted to find out where it could go. At first I had no idea how this could ever work out and I nearly scrapped the idea of making this video at all, but suddenly the idea of the chord change and the flute popped into my head and all from then on the ideas just kept flowing out of me. It's always such an emotional moment to listen to the final track on which I've been working on for hours and notice it all just comes together in the end. I guess not only in Germany but all around the world christmas cookies and -decoration are selling like crazy and it's only November. As a child my parents did everything for me to keep me feeling the cozy and warm magic of the winter days, but the older I got the more stressfull christmas became, which is kinda sad. It should always hold this magic spirit forever. This feeling of your younger self, sitting at the window, watching the snowflakes falling. [Lo-Fi] Pokémon - Sandgem Town (Diamond//PearlPlatinum) {Beat Mix} Andreas Zoeller 2019-11-08 | Little Storytime: I played a big concert with my band (I had to sing for 3,5 hours nearly straight, only had one little pause). Normally that is not that big of a deal for me, we often have gigs that last longer than 3 hours, but this time I was sick, so sick that I didn't know how my voice could probably last longer than 1 or 2 songs, but fortunately I got a bit better and eventually made it through the whole show. Two days later I went to the doctor to check how my vocal cords were doing and it turned out they definitely did not like that, so he told me to stop singing and speaking for 7 days. Doesn't sound much, hm? I can tell you it is hell and most importantly it stole all my inspiration to do anything just remotely connected to music, so after my vow of silence finally was over, I sat down and put all the musical energy that I held back for the last 7 days into this remix. It might sound a bit messy and overenergetic, but that's just the relief I felt after those days of not making music. Ridin (Chill Beat) Andreas Zoeller 2019-10-25 | It was around 10:20 pm and I was mindlessly browsing reddit as I came across an animation loop in r/art that was crossposted to r/raining (a subreddit I'm absolutely in love with!), which inspired me to make a chill piano beat with some guitar lines on top. Long story short: I found out it was made for the song "Cute" by Kiefer, which is a really great track, but the problem was that I therefore couldn't use it. A post-apocalyptic soundtrack Andreas Zoeller 2019-08-16 | The talented artist of the stillframe is called Miguel Membreño. When painting this he was heavily inspired by the game "The Last of Us", which he greatly managed to show through the atmosphere and world he made and which also was one of my huge inspirations, when composing the music, together with the aesthetics from the game-series "Fallout", so I thought it really fits the soundtrack and so I tried to bring those two things together.
