But there's a lot more depth to this place than just food and aesthetic.
Because there was already an established Chinese merchant community residing the Philippines well before the Spanish even arrived, Manila's Chinatown was intentionally built right across the Spanish-controlled walled city of Intramuros for the Chinese immigrants who converted to Christianity, whose descendants are now the Filipino-Chinese families of today. It's history is too rich to be covered in one go but eventually, Binondo grew to become city of Manila's center of trade and commerce where you can treat yourself to some authentic Filipino-Chinese cuisine, source merchandise in wholesale, or just get lost in the vibes honestly (responsibly tho 😅).

A total of 915 cases were reported, with two main categories: abuse and cruelty, and welfare and neglect. Around two-thirds of the cases fell under the welfare and neglect category, where pet owners failed to provide proper care and basic needs for their animals, resulting in poor living conditions. Some cases involved abandonment, hoarding, and incidents of pets falling from heights due to a lack of proper safety measures. In response to these alarming statistics, the SPCA is advocating for legislative changes to strengthen animal protection in Singapore. These proposed changes include imposing tougher sentences for those convicted of animal cruelty, as well as introducing stricter penalties to address issues of neglect and welfare.

The everyman yet the outsider, the ‘tramp’, is resurrected in Adipur town by dedicated fans. Bowler hats, walking sticks and the legendary penguin walk are seen everywhere. This Chaplin mania was brought to this town by one man – Dr. Ashok Aswani, India’s Charlie Chaplin.
Dr. Aswani unfortunately passed away on November 23, 2023. He started Charlie Circle a superfan club dedicated to the lenegary comedian Charlie Chaplin in 1973. From screening Chaplin’s films to providing outfits to all those who would show up to participate in celebrating Charlie Chaplin’s birthday, Dr. Aswani’s magic put Adipur on the world map. And now, his grandson Talin is taking over the role – the role of keeping the tradition of celebrating Chaplin’s birthday, and more importantly, the role of keeping his grandfather’s legacy alive.

The name in itself brings a sense of irony to not just India’s cliche of Bollywood, but perhaps a mainstream understanding of death metal to the average Indian; gory, bloody and devil worship. The three piece metallers from the capital of New Delhi are anything but that. What started out as a parody project from the bedroom of Karan Katiyar, has now evolved into amongst the most exciting new bands from South Asia in the last couple of years, at a time when guitar music is limping its way back into mainstream consciousness.
Finding success in parodies of popular Bollywood, desi and sometimes chart-topping pop singles, Bloodywood are now over 100-shows old on American, European and SE Asian shores, with a fraction of those numbers in India. Fresh off the success of their debut record, Rakshak, the band are now winding down after a whirlwind 2022-23, dominating stages across festivals outside of India, a new album in the works and finding a sense of rhythm on the back of their unprecedented success.
Upon meeting the three-piece, which morphs into a sextet in its live avatar, the band are undoubtedly desi boys. Their love for leather outfits and ideal BMI percentages; a staple of (most) metalheads, is at par with their love for the dhol and dhoti-clad frontman on stage and butter chicken. The band represents a new wave in the Indian music scene - those who don’t shy away from their Indianness, or look down upon it as being lame. They, however, do not use these elements as cliches or salability factors to Western audiences either, but ask a Bloodywood fan anywhere in the world, and they are into the band for their fun persona, swashbuckling live shows and music that feels right at home. instagram.com/bloodywood facebook.com/bloodywood.delhi

Unknown to many locals themselves, there is a hidden subculture of thrill-seeking farmers and mechanics who modify their vehicles to race each other in muddy rice fields.
Traditionally, rice fields were plowed by buffalos, but today, many farmers have made the switch to "Iron Buffalos" or locally crafted tractors that streamline their work.
One of the key players in this racing community is Sumaitre ‘Jim’ Fahwan, a mechanic, who started his team nearly two decades ago. VICE joins Jim's crew as they gear up for their next race, delving deep into the need for speed in the world of Thai farming.
In Thailand, agriculture isn't just work; it's of utmost importance to the nation, employing about a third of the workforce and underpinning the Thai economy. And tractors are the beating heart of this profession.

Prachya Deebu, a 48-year-old single dad, joined the school’s Mother’s Day event donning a wig and dress for his 14-year-old adopted daughter at Bannerngroy School in Thailand on August 11. He shared a video on TikTok that captured his daughter hugging him during the school event, and also uploaded their photo on his Facebook account with the caption “On Mother’s Day, mom’s here.” Users on both Facebook and TikTok expressed their admiration in the comments, remarking how heartwarming his gesture is, praising his fatherhood, and how adorable they look together. “In Thailand, we have a tradition to honor mothers on Mother’s Day,” he told VICE. “My daughter doesn’t have her biological mother around, so I dressed up like a mother to remind her of her mother.”

It’s traditional to eat special dishes during Boknal, including bosintang, a controversial stew containing boiled dog meat. While traditions are valued in the country, the consumption of dog meat is declining as more people view dogs as companions rather than livestock. According to a 2022 poll of 1,514 respondents, 85.5 percent of Koreans said they don’t consume dog meat. Yang Jong-tae, a dog meat farmer in South Korea, closed down his farm in March after running it for 30 years. The decision came after he was contacted by Humane Society International (HSI), a non-profit organization that is currently campaigning across Asia to end the dog meat trade. The rescued dogs from this operation were transported to the U.S. for adoption. Dog meat trade is not illegal in the country. However, discussions about prohibiting it have been going on for years. In 2021, then-president Moon Jae-in brought up the possibility of banning dog meat. Last June, lawmaker Han Jeoung-ae proposed a bill to ban dog meat entirely. But no changes have been made so far. In this video, Yang explains why he’s leaving the industry.Niana Guerreros Recipe for Creating Viral TikTok Dance ChallengesVICE Asia2023-08-09 | Filipino dancer Niana Guerrero made millions around the world follow her steps with her dance challenges on TikTok. Viral footage shows winds buffeting rows of seated passengers as the plane comes in to land.
"It was chaos with people close to the door appearing to faint one by one and flight attendants calling out for doctors on board through broadcasting," a 44-year-old passenger told the Yonhap news agency.
The passengers also included school children who were on their way to a sporting event. The mother of one of the students said: “The children were shaking, crying and frightened. Those sitting near the exit must have been shocked the most.”
The flight arrived safely at Daegu International Airport, but with the door still open. Several passengers required hospital treatment for breathing problems.
Flight attendants could not stop the suspect from opening the door because they were seated for the plane to land. Witnesses say he even tried to jump out of the plane.
“It is difficult to have a normal conversation with him,” an official said. “We will investigate the motive of the crime and punish him.”How TikTok Open Verse Challenges Got This Thai Rapper Millions of FansVICE Asia2023-05-30 | Open-verse challenges are the TikTok world's version of passing the 🎤.
