💡 Why opt for constant acceleration? By making this assumption, we drastically simplify the calculus-based relationships between displacement, velocity, and acceleration into nicely packed algebraic expressions. These powerful equations are collectively known as the Kinematic Equations.

This discussion attempts to correct many misconceptions held by the Flat Earth community, including misunderstandings of Gravity, fundamental force mechanisms, taking spectroscopy measurements, power output of stars, and historical context of the development of the Globe.
This channel does not support the Flat Earth. However, these discussions demand critical thinking of science, and many physical phenomena pointed out by Flat Earthers are interesting observations. And despite the claims made by the opposing parties, all phenomena have firm answers grounded in the current theories of modern physics. The idea of Earth as a sphere was a radical idea around 2200 years ago, but an overwhelming number of observations and data support the theory of the globe today. As with the previous debate, it is imperative to investigate these topics for yourself. Dr John 2024-06-22 | Interview with Quantum Physicist Dr. Jon D’Emidio on the weirdness of quantum mechanics, its origins, quantum entanglement, quantum spin, and the complexity required to simulate a many-particle quantum system on a computer. We begin with an “explain like I’m five” explanation of the most basic building blocks of quantum theory and then progressively build on the fundamentals required for understanding Jon’s research on large-scale quantum systems using Quantum Monte Carlo Simulations. We also discuss the current status of quantum computing, and how it is changing the landscape of quantum research. We conclude with a discussion on the ever-growing sphere of quantum pseudoscience and methods for distinguishing between legitimate quantum research and ‘quantum woo.’

Dr. Jon D’Emidio is an active quantum physicist at Donostia International Physics Center (DIPC) in San Sebastian, Spain. Jon studies critical phase phenomena related to quantum many-body systems. Jon’s work has appeared multiple times in Physics Review Letters (journals.aps.org/prl), and his most recent publication entitled “Universal Features of Entanglement Entropy in the Honeycomb Hubbard Model” was highlighted by the editors of PRL as a featured article.
Previously, Jon held a post-doctoral fellowship at Ecole Polytechnique in Lausanne, Switzerland, and he completed his Ph.D. in theoretical condensed matter physics at the University of Kentucky in 2017.

While the exploration is strange, it’s somehow not quite so different from our own concept of reality, perception, and what it means to be living in this universe.

Our conversation details how solar activity is currently being monitored at SWPC, and the protocols put in place for avoiding massive disruptions to our electric power grid during a solar super storm. Impacts of historical storms are also discussed, including the 2003 Halloween Solar Storms, the March 1989 geomagnetic storm over the northeastern United States and Canada, the 1859 Carrington Event, and a recent radio burst back in December of 2023 during our current solar cycle. We’ll also discuss measures you can take for learning and preparing for the next solar super storm.

Shawn Dahl is a space weather forecaster with NOAA's Space Weather Prediction Center in Boulder, Colorado. He's been with the Space Weather Prediction Center for 9 years, where he also actively participates in educational outreach on space weather and how it affects us here on Earth. He served in the United States Air Force for 22 years in the intelligence and meteorology operations’ fields. After retiring from the Air Force in 2007, he served as a meteorological technician for the National Weather Service as well as the lead weather forecaster for the U.S. Air Force. In 2018, Shawn was recognized by the National Weather Service as a National level Cline Award winner.

By the end of this video, you’ll have a better understanding of our current levels of preparedness, how to interpret solar data and warnings, and the practical measures taken for handling solar events felt here on Earth.

In this video, we will use real lunar data and determine how it can be used to predict the Total Solar Eclipse over the continental United States on April 8th, 2024. In order to achieve this, we need to understand the key dynamics of the Earth, Sun, and Moon system. And while most of us are familiar with these astronomical bodies, there are many subtitles between the moon’s orbit around Earth, the phases of the moon, and Earth’s orbit around the Sun that must align. And by using real lunar data, you’ll see exactly how each of these components contribute to forming the Total Solar Eclipse. The analysis performed in this video can be applied to any year or time period for predicting total solar eclipses.

By the end of this video, you’ll know why total solar eclipses are so rare, and the steps needed for determining exactly when they will occur.

Can you solve the bird train riddle?

Dr John 2023-12-16 | Can you solve this classic bird train riddle? 🚂🦅🚂

This mathematical riddle was famously posed by Max Born to his closest friends and colleagues, which included Nobel Laureates such as Albert Einstein, Marie Curie, Niels Bohr, and Erwin Schrödinger.

Surprisingly, none of them were able to figure this problem out very quickly.

The first scientist to quickly solve the problem in his head was John von Neumann.

The problem appears to be a simple 1D motion, mechanics problem on the surface, but becomes quite unwieldy when approached using a direct calculation method.

In this video, we run through the two methods that can be used to solve this problem. The more difficult method requires the use of a Geometric Series to solve the problem. But the easier approach requires only a couple lines of algebra.

We’ll cover both approaches in this video ✅

Physics Reveals How the Pyramids were Actually Built

And how did the Ancient Egyptians lift the massive 10 ton blocks to such great heights?

In this video, we run through the physics and actually calculate the forces involved in the construction of the Great Pyramid of Giza. The ancient Egyptians used a simple machine known as a Herodotus machine. And while simple in design, the Egyptians didn’t leave many clues behind on the exact details of this machine. By using the physics of a lever system and the geometrical considerations of the blocks in the pyramid, we can backwards engineer the design of this machine.

But even with the assistance of the machine, how much lifting power was still required to lift the heavy blocks? By the end of this video, you’ll know exactly what the ancient Egyptians needed to lift during the Great Pyramid’s construction.

Documented by the historian Herodotus and later elaborated on by the genius Leonardo Da Vinci, the Egyptians used a lever-system that incorporated a counterweight. The Herodotus machine cleverly positioned the fulcrum of the lever slightly offset from the block’s center of mass. In this way part of the block’s own mass was used as a counterweight. This ancient device utilized the mechanical advantage of using counterweights and forever changed the course of history.

In the Middle Ages, the concept of counterweights evolved and found its way into siege weaponry, particularly the formidable Trebuchets. These powerful machines could launch a flaming 200-pound projectile nearly 1,000 feet away, playing a pivotal role in the crusades in Europe and the Mongol Invasions in China.

Fast forward to modern times, and counterweights have become indispensable in various aspects of our lives. A few examples include drawbridges, construction cranes, stabilizing skyscrapers, and even the crankshafts of car engines. The Egyptians were truly ahead of their time, and their technological innovations continue to influence our world today.

Where the Manhattan Project all Began⚛️🔬☢️ #shorts

This was the letter written by Albert Einstein (drafted by Leo Szilard) informing President Franklin D. Roosevelt of the enormous threat a nuclear bomb posed on the Allies in World War II. German scientists Otto Hahn and Fritz Strassmann discovered nuclear fission in December of 1938, and the Nazis had already seized mines in Czechoslovakia containing vast quantities of uranium - the fissile material required for building a bomb. This letter to FDR is what set off the alarm bells that would eventually lead to the formation of The Manhattan Project. Robert Oppenheimer was eventually assigned as the director of the Los Alamos Laboratory, the final assembly and design site of the first atomic bomb.

To figure this out, we need to know a few details about rocket launches, lambos, and how to apply kinematics to periods of constant acceleration. Finding the rocket's acceleration isn't as simple as dividing its change in velocity from rest by the launch time! 🌌🚀

Unleashing Kinematics: Space Shuttle vs Lamborghini! Which accelerates fastest?

Applying kinematics to real-world problems can be as hard as rocket science. But it doesn’t have to be that way. We're diving into the fascinating world of rocket science and determining how to apply kinematic equations to a real out-of-this-world problem: the launch of a rocket ship! 🌌🚀
But wait, there's more! We'll also compare the acceleration of the rocket ship to the newest model of the Lamborghini Revuelto. Buckle up and get ready for an epic race between rockets and supercars!
In this video, we'll start by exploring the launch of the space shuttle Discovery on July 4th, 2006. This iconic American spacecraft completed a staggering 39 launches, orbited the Earth 5,830 times, and traveled a mind-boggling 149 million miles! To reach orbital speed, the shuttle had to accelerate its 78 metric ton body to a mind-blowing speed of 17,500 miles per hour or over 7800 meters per second. And it accomplished all of this in a mere 8 and a half minutes!
But finding the rocket's acceleration isn't as simple as dividing its change in velocity by the launch time!

In this video, we review the definitions and concepts of distance, displacement, speed, velocity, instantaneous velocity, and acceleration. We review the subtle differences between the scalar quantities of distance & speed and the vector quantities of displacement, velocity, and acceleration. We also highlight how they’re related using their slope definitions and relationships in calculus.

We also cover the motion-graphs of these quantities and how to plot each one versus time. We again highlight the calculus relationships between each quantity of motion and how to derive each one given the other.
We covered a few real-world examples to help with illustrating these concepts:

Dimensional Analysis: Intro to Pro

and wanting to learn a simple trick for building your problem solving confidence and test-taking ability?

In this video, Dr. John introduces the problem-solving technique of dimensional analysis, which is often overlooked in introductory
physics classes but is highly valuable throughout all branches and course levels of physics. By using this technique, you can develop
your physics intuition, understand concepts more clearly, contextualize bigger picture ideas, and improve your test-taking abilities.
Dr. John explains the importance of units in science and engineering and introduces the International System of Units (SI), which includes
seven fundamental base units and 22 derived units. He provides an example of Newton's 2nd Law and how dimensional analysis can be used
to determine the units of force. He builds intuitive examples of common human-scale metric units. The power of dimensional analysis is
then demonstrated in 3 key examples. First, it is used to find the units of the force constant in Newton’s Universal Law of Gravitation.
Second, dimensional analysis is used to narrow the choices of a multiple choice question asking for the correct expression for a pendulum's period.
Finally, as a last challenge, dimensional analysis is used to determine the exponents in the drag force expression for Stokes’ Law.
Overall, this video provides viewers with a foundational understanding of dimensional analysis and how it can be applied to a large array
of scientific contexts.
