Justines Mic 2024-07-20 | 🔎 FAQ: justinesmic.carrd.co/#faq ☕️ SUPPORT ME: ko-fi.com/justinesmici’m always so happy when i get to make a video with my characters. 🥰i know a lot of you guys were expecting a lore drop from this when i first announced that magdalena and judith would be back in another video, but there is no lore here! it is purely symbolic. :) i am currently working on a carrd which should have some further info on my ocs, i’ve just kept getting distracted because i’m kind of going through something tough right now lol. the quote i read at the start of this video is a stanza from an epic (read: long) poem called “paradise lost.” it was written by john milton, and it tells the story of the fall of man from lucifer’s perspective. that section i read takes place during a scene where adam is arguing with eve over her eating fruit from the tree of knowledge of good and evil. he’s upset and frustrated with her because he knows that eating such a fruit will ultimately result in death for the both of them (according to christian tradition, death did not exist prior to the fall of man, the “original sin.”). however, adam resolves to accept his inevitable fate and ultimately chooses eve and his love for her over god. BUT THEN i came across @FishinaBirdcage's song “rule 34” on tiktok. i had already been a fan of some of his music prior hearing his newest release, so i was really intrigued by this foray into spicier themes. and he certainly did not hold back from spicy themes. as per usual, i ended up thinking, “what would this sound like from a femme/wlw perspective?” i ESPECIALLY wanted to make a wlw version given how the song contained lyrics like “you look so good there on your knees” and “such a good girl knows how to please.” and, you know. maybe i just really wanted to sing something where i called someone a good girl. 🤭😏now HERE’S where a bunch of my ideas began snowballing. we’re all familiar with the term “rule 34” right? if not, it basically means that, “if something exists, then there’s p🌽rn of it.” @FishinaBirdcage usually titles his songs like they’re different “rules,” so it only made sense that once he reached 34 he’d make it the spicy one. the meaning behind the title got me thinking, “what if i got an nsfw voice actor to feature on this cover? that would be so fun-““wait.”“i have built a following and a small reputation for myself on youtube.” “i have the means of contacting said voice actors if i wanted.”“…I COULD DO THIS IF I WANTED.” so that’s exactly what i did. (also thank you @chloebreez for listening to me gush and always encouraging my ideas lol)enter bordeaux black. how i became familiar with her work is not the most important thing in the world (but if you are so inclined to know—yes! women like watching p🌽rn too! including me! and if your instinct is to view people who work in adult media through a victim lens, or to look down upon women who enjoy adult media, you should do some self reflecting!). i shot her a little email introducing myself and pitching the project: i’d do lead vocals, and she’d voice act some of the lyrics on top of my singing as well as do some background vocals. to my surprise and delight, she was SUPER down with my idea! and so we got to work, i asked @antihuntress if she could edit another video for me (which she did AMAZINGLY by the way), and now we’re here! this has been one of my most favorite experiences working on a cover so far. immediately i just wanna talk about how bordeaux is one of the sweetest, kindest people i’ve met during my time in this space. it was so lovely being able to work, talk and joke with her throughout this! (OC Lyrics) Justines Mic 2022-12-17 | 🔎 FAQ: justinesmic.carrd.co/#faq ☕️ BUY ME A COFFEE (Support me with a one time donation!) ko-fi.com/justinesmici told some of my colleagues in the lab i'm in at uni that i covered "mary on a cross," and one of them asked if i was gonna sing "unholy" by sam smith. at first, i didn't really give the song much thought. but upon hearing covers from eiry, anna and chloe, i recognized the song from tik tok, and the creative cogs in my brain started whirring. i saw how chloe and anna did a lyric rewrite of the song to include a dual perspective, and i was inspired to do something similar by rewriting the lyrics to fit the story of my ocs, magdalena and judith. (fun fact: i wrote these lyrics while wildly distracted from writing an essay i was assigned to do). i imagine this song happening towards the end of magdalena's arch, where she finally accepts herself for who she is and gives into her love for judith. perhaps it is due to my catholic upbringing, but i've always been obsessed with catholic imagery and aesthetics. as a result, i wanted to include a lot of it in my lyric rewrite. below, you can find timestamps for references i want to highlight as well as their explanations. — 0:09 a reference to revelation 17:4-5 in the bible— 1:26 refers to the apostles creed, a prayer often said during catholic mass that acts as a confession of faith— 1:29 refers to the phrases uttered during the sacrament of communion. typically, the person serving the host or the wine will say, "the body of christ" or "the blood of christ." i was mainly inspired to include a lyric like this because of the song "bedroom hymns" by florence + the machine. in her song, she sings, "this is his body, this is his love, such selfish prayers and i can't get enough" (listen to the full song: youtu.be/Nq3xfX8KDkk) — 1:31 two references are (kind of) made here. i used the word "immaculate" to allude to the virgin mary's immaculate conception, which means that she was free from original sin from the moment she was conceived. i also used the word "communion" to refer to the sacrament of the same name. the word itself also refers to a coming together of sorts. i just realized this now, but this line basically says that a union like magdalena and judith's is just as holy and sinless in spite of what bigots might say. — 1:35 two references made here again! before entering the pews (that is, the benches you sit on) in a catholic church, you must genuflect; you face the altar, get down on your right knee and do the sign of the cross. i also talk about mary magdalene in this line. mary magdalene is a figure in the bible who repented for her sins and washed jesus' feet with her hair and perfumes. — 1:37 a reference to how witches/heretics were burned at the stake, though when writing this line i was mainly thinking about joan of arc. — 1:45 in the bible, when jesus was sentenced to death, he was crowned with a wreath of thorns as a way to mock him, since he was called "king of the jews." also, a martyr is someone who is killed for their religious or other beliefs. many figures and saints within catholic literature died through martyrdom. — 2:00 lilith is thought to be adam's first wife before eve. she was cast out of eden for refusing to submit to adam.🎶 COVER CREDITS— Original song by Sam Smith (ft. Thank you.)I remember hearing the lyrics, "You go down just like Holy Mary..." on TikTok one day and going, "HELLO??? 👀" The suggestiveness of the song paired with the Catholic allusions/imagery had me immediately hooked. I decided to dedicate this song to my OCs again, the same ones I featured in my cover of "Hellfire" (Listen here: youtu.be/90of7hesc70). However this time, we get to see more of my demon OC's human form. The idea for these OCs first sprouted when I first listened to annapantsu's cover of "Hellfire" during mid-lockdown in 2020. I ended up going down a rabbit hole of animatics, and then that drove me to make a playlist, and then I ended up on picrew.me trying to give my OCs an appearance. Since I'm not the best at drawing, the picrews I made were the only pieces of art I had of my OCs for a long time. Two of my friends ended up making fanart of my OCs for my 19th birthday, which made me SO freaking happy. It wasn't until I started working with mekarer on art for covers that I was able to have fully fledged depictions of my characters. Carson Shaw leaves her small town life to pursue her dream of playing professional baseball, while her husband is away at war. Maxine Chapman is an African-American woman obsessed with baseball, who cannot even get people to allow her to try-out and struggles to get considered for any baseball team."needless to say, i quickly fell in love with the relationship between the characters carson shaw (played by abbi jacobson) and greta gill (played by d'arcy carden). for a while, i had actually fantasized about doing a cover of "bei mir bist du schoen" and centering it around them. the idea came to me from my knowledge of the play, "indecent," and the way that the song was used there.
