This video shows the superconducting electromagnet in a Kelvinox-400 dilution refrigerator quenching at slightly above 9 tesla. I explain what this means in the video. We usually recover the helium boil off, but when a quench happens, helium boils off too fast for the recovery system to handle it. If we didn't vent to atmosphere, the dilution refrigerator would explode.
