Less than two weeks after arriving to Italy, we had already applied for and established our residency. Once residency is complete, we then signed up for the National Health Insurance, or ‘Servizio Sanitario Nazionale’ in Italian.

When I was in the office signing up, the worker gave me the option to choose our Primary Care Doctor. The process of choosing our doctor in Italy was quick. The girl pulled up the long list doctors on the computer screen, some of which were not in our area. She was speaking completely in Italian, so as I was trying to read names and locations, I was also trying to listen to her. I do believe she said that we could change our Primary #Doctor at any time. They always say that, but if I wanted to change, exactly how do I do it?
Anyways, I chose who I think was the only woman available in #Italy in our immediate area. It was a blind choice, because I made the decision right at the same time I was signing up for insurance. And, we’ve already concluded that we made an excellent choice!
Doctors here are available whenever you need them. You have a direct line to their cell phone, and they answer when you call. The actual doctor answers the phone. When they are in the office, they have a secretary working for them as well, but when they are not in the clinic, they either answer, or call back right away. Pretty incredible experience coming from the American and Korean medical systems.
We are so grateful already she is our doctor! We’ve seen her several times already, mostly because of the #pregnancy and she’s been very receptive. She’s also super hard working. I admire that greatly. We are super appreciative for her efforts.
