Sporting Fashion: Outdoor Girls 1800-1960 exhibit hosted by the Taft Museum of Art in Cincinnati, Ohio. This exhibit is billed as “The first… to explore the evolution of women’s sporting attire in Western fashion over this 160-year period, drawn from the exceptional collections of the FIDM Museum at the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising, Los Angeles.” I focus more on the nineteenth century outfits, but you’ll get plenty of glimpses of twentieth century pretties! I wore my me-made 1870s tennis dress and hat for the occasion but did not take in my pink tennis racket for safety reasons. Tobogganing, ice skating, picnicking, gardening, promenading, walking, horseback riding, inline skating, bicycling, basketball, calisthenics, tennis, archery, cricket, golf, croquet, and more! Regency, 1820s, 1830s, Victorian, Edwardian. Lots of 1890s, my favorite!

I started with a whole lace synthetic wig, put curls (perm rods) and pin curls (hair pins) in it for the tête de mouton hairstyle, like the coiffure francaise in the @americanduchess guide to beauty. Next I boiled the curled parts (well, poured boiling water on them and let them steep for two minutes). I let the wig dry completely before removing the rods and pins. The i pomaded and powdered using @lbcchistorical products and teased before wrapping the buckles around a large knitting needle and securing with hairpins. I teased the heck out of the front for that sheep hair look lol I’m sure I’ll need to powder again on the day of the ball, and I might make more buckle curls to attach!
