(Climate Adapted Pathways for Education) | Stories From the Classroom #3Climate Majority Project2025-07-17 | Climate Courage Schools is a national campaign calling for a system-wide shift: where teachers are supported to speak the truth, students are empowered to act, and schools become centres of emotional resilience, practical adaptation and collective purpose.

What would a school system look like that’s honest about the future? One that supports young people to adapt — and thrive — in a rapidly changing world?
Young people are growing up in a time of deep and accelerating change. Climate breakdown, ecological collapse, AI, inequality and economic disruption are reshaping what the future looks like – and how it feels. It’s no surprise that anxiety, despair and disengagement are on the rise. Yet our schools still teach for a world of stability and linear careers.
Do you have a story to share? We need voices that move politicians, educators, and the public to act. Whether you're an educator, a parent, a mental health professional, or a young person, your experience matters. Tell us your story: https://tally.so/r/nP4400

To engage, as climate chaotic impacts grow, in strategic adaptation, for emergency resilience.
…To do anything less is to betray ourselves and all our children.

The climate crisis is entering a new phase. As extreme weather becomes more common, life supporting systems come under increasing strain, with UK communities exposed to multiple threats. SAFER is a new campaign from the Climate Majority Project, aiming to make adapting for climate impacts a national priority: practical, funded, and community-led.
This in-person event is for campaigners, community leaders, decisionmakers, and anyone interested in a national push for a serious, joined-up approach to adaptation.
Adaptation is no longer optional. It is a partner and a catalyst to decarbonisation and nature regeneration - and a powerful way to bring people into climate action by addressing immediate, visible challenges.

Visit the Climate Psychological Alliance website here https://www.ClimatePsychologyAlliance.org/What is SAFER? (Strategic Adaptation For Emergency Resilience) | Climate Majority ProjectClimate Majority Project2025-05-13 | We are not safe. 'Strategic Adaptation' is urgently needed now... as in, right now! Earth is passing dangerous thresholds (tipping points) that scientists have warned us about for decades. One of CMP’s core missions is to shift strategic adaptation from the margins of climate change conversations to the mainstream of society.
Leading communities and organisations across the UK are providing examples of how we can make our future safer (though not totally safe, it's too late for that). We are helping them broadcast and amplify their lessons to other communities and the nation.
Ultimately, our demand is that Government produce an appropriate adaptation policy and implementation response, to fulfil their most basic responsibility: protecting its citizens (and their children) from wholly foreseeable threats.
In conclusion: The recent chaos caused by a major power outage in Portugal and Spain youtube.com/watch?v=wNZ1J4ml3G8 is a timely demonstration of the vulnerability of contemporary industrialised societies. Every such ‘warning shot’ builds the case for serious disaster-preparedness, and for ‘redundancy’ and back-up plans to become standard systems approaches. The time to act is now, not after an unprecedented disaster.

CMP co-director Liam Kavanagh explains our approach to catalysing serious climate action for the majority. There is no single call to action or silver bullet solution to the climate crisis. While we need a systems-wide effort on par with the WWII mobilisation, there is no government department assigning people their work to do (you make socks, you work the land, you become a solider). Each of us, in communities, workplaces and schools, has to find and help each other find our own work to do. Readers of 'The Deluge' remark on the novel’s prophetic quality; a story grounded in over a decade of inquiry and research, which never shies away from how bad things are likely to get. Stephen aligns strongly with the Climate Majority Project in his belief that, “the climate movement must be willing to include people with whom we disagree; otherwise it's not a movement, it's a clubhouse. The way to have a broad based movement is to have a common objective in front of us."
Pre election, Stephen first joined CMP co-director Liam Kavanagh to talk about mobilising mainstream climate action. Watch their conversation here. youtu.be/8n6qOEolTFQ

The video of this event could be especially of interest to you if you are; a teacher trying to find what resources and opportunities are out there to support you in teaching the truth about the environment in the classroom and seeking to connect with colleagues with similar concerns, a student seeking to discover better approaches which are not provided in your school, a scientist or professor seeking to foster inner and outer resilience in higher education, or you work on the inner dimension of climate change and want to watch a conversation with other people working in this field.
Rachel also presents TE’s Triple Wellbeing model. This fosters 'Self-Care, People-Care and Earth-Care', emphasizing that these factors are not only connected but fundamentally interdependent - and that embracing this relationship initiates a cycle of wellbeing that uplifts every aspect of life. A youth educational approach based on this transformative triad offers a basis for living with purpose and courage in a world of intensifying challenge.

In this first Climate Majority Thinks webinar, conservationist, Conservative and philanthropist Ben Goldsmith en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ben_Goldsmith offers a short talk entitled nature-resilience: ecosystem-based adaptation as a key future direction for climate thinking and action. In-depth discussion follows, chaired by Rupert Read.
Britain is chronically nature-deficient. A disaster for its own sake, this situation furthermore leaves us as a nation poorly adapted to damaging climate impacts. Citing just one example, the depletion of our wetlands has removed an important buffer against flooding. This badly needs to change. Ben is a key supporter of Wild Card Britain’s most successful cutting-edge rewilding organisation (and one of the first initiatives in the Climate Majority incubator), which aims to spearhead this key aspect of transformative and strategic adaptation.
We need a national agenda that links rebalancing and restoring ecosystems, with the need to become resilient or even anti-fragile (growing stronger through challenges, rather than merely absorbing impacts without damage). Also discussed is ‘agriwilding’ - a synthesis of rewilding with food-growing that can also function to reduce ‘culture war’ stigma sometimes attached to rewilding.

Expect to find out more about our theory and practice of this vital initiative. The Climate Majority Project anthology features guest chapters from organisers of citizen climate action in the UK; which is exemplified both in our campaigns and the people on the ground who are already creating the conditions for a serious, urgent majority response to the climate and nature crisis.
When people know we are in deep trouble, and realise that the majority of citizens know we are in trouble, we have a recipe for deep social change.
In dismay at the inaction of governments on climate, emerging citizen groups are showing how people can drive change. In the workplace, in politics, in business and local communities, people are stepping forward both to demand transformation and make it happen.

Today, amidst his teaching and research, Chamkaur accompanies students into the awareness of the crisis we are more and more likely to face as humans in this earth system. By learning about these existential issues together, the anxiety produced by the awareness of the climate crisis much more effectively turns into action and professional/life choices that work beyond business as usual.
Liam and Chamkaur, together with other CMP members and collaborators, are now organising a campaign to raise awareness of climate anxiety, especially in educational contexts. Many teachers feel they are left with the task of telling their students the world is falling apart. While there are available resources and professionals for community resilience, people don’t always know where to find them. There is a majority of the population who is concerned about our future, but feels alone with this feeling, and remains silent.
A 2019 poll showed that 54 percent of respondents think that human extinction due to climate change is possible, an opinion shared by many climate scientists. Our campaign will also explore including support for the wider concerns about environmental collapse, war and polarisation, which have become widely recognised under the name ”polycrisis”.
Stay tuned!
