When I worked as a worship intern at my church during grad school, one of my jobs was to arrange new lead sheets for our vocalists to learn consistent harmonies. The Potter's Hand was among those songs. The chord structure moves in and out of dissonance and tension, like a piece of clay assuming various forms before reaching its final shape and baked in the kiln. None of us has reached our final shape, when we will be like Christ and be able to know Him fully. We cooperate with the Holy Spirit in the process of sanctification, as His power transforms us. In there you'll find kindergartners, great-grandparents, and everything in between! I'm so grateful for the chance to work with such a fantastic (and diverse) musical community over the last 5 years. Thanks to the newcomers and veterans alike!Joining us on cello is 16-year-old Elijah de la Motte. Elijah is a pre-college student at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music and appeared on America's Got Talent. He's #3 in a musical family of 10 kids (and very busy mom and dad). I wrote 24 loops of 4 bars each for Elijah to record, with nothing but a metronome as a guide. I was able to mix and match these 24 loops to create the highs and lows that give the performance its shape (and breaks through all the repetition).
