Carrying two 40' Century stands, one in each hand, I would've been quite a sight and didn't want to attract unnecessary attention on street. Not having the money to grab a taxi either, I chose to walk South back to the apartment I was occupying in using a less crowded avenue.Walking down the so called Amsterdam Avenue at one point it hit me: "Was that really him?" From the corner of my eye I thought I got a glimpse of non other than the Kelsey Grammer. Frasier has ran in Finland for it's full length and I've been growing up with it so his features were plenty familiar to me. But could it really be?He appeared to be enjoying a meal on a restaurant's terrace. I decided I'd rather not stare and didn't take another look back. I continued walking.My heart was aching. A few blocks further down my legs didn't agree to go any further unless I get this sorted out. I had a huge urge to go back and make sure whether it was him or not but what the heck would I do with that, I thought. I wouldn't have any use with an autograph. I wasn't that eager to chit-chat with him either. To him, I'm a nobody after all.Fifteen minutes I had already stood there, in the middle of a sidewalk, just scratching my head with no idea what to do.I had been filming the streets of New York with my small video camera and a vintage lens for over a week by then. No clear goal. Just training my eye and having fun. But what I was clearly missing was the bottomline merging it all together. I had some plans about interviewing somebody. Again, no idea who, just someone interesting enough I could find. - - "That's it!""I'll go and if that's really him I ask if he would be willing to give me a short opinion about his relationship to this city!" And so I went. My nerves were already a little easier on me since I thought he'd have been already left due to my lengthy indecisiveness but getting closer I noticed that same person was still there. And it was really him.Luckily he was on the outer tables of the terrace so I could stay on the side of sidewalk and still get right next to him. So I walked there beside him, lowered the two large stands from my hands down to the ground, turned to him and spoke: "Hello! I'm sorry to interrupt you. My name is Julius, I'm from Finland and I'm filming a personal short film here in New York. I recognised you and couldn't resist to ask whether you would be interested to give me a short insight of this city and what's your relationship with it. I have recording gear with me in my backpack and it wouldn't take more than a few minutes..."Well, to my surprise he not only was willing to participate in my crazy experiment but invited me to his dressing room in Broadway! The next day I was there on time we agreed on, just an hour before his showtime and I got this incredible opportunity to interview Kelsey Grammer right there and then.I cherish this experience and am so happy I can now share some of it with you in the form of this film. MIDIGrade: Controller for DaVinci Resolve on a budget Julius Koivistoinen 2016-01-24 | *New Windows compatible version 3 is now available! http://www.midigrade.comMy situation is that I mostly work as a DP but I love grading and do it now and then professionally so a controller would be nice. Justifying to myself a 4 figure purchase in something like that when I don't own even a proper monitor yet was a bit hard though so I felt like I just have to face the fact that I will have to settle for my keyboard and Wacom tablet for a long time.But then I saw others mapping their own MIDI controllers and the possibilities in all that and I got REALLY inspired from it. So while doing a lot of research, practicing the programming using my mouse wheel and just planning how to map a controller I finally found a controller which was perfect for my needs: Midi Fighter Twister has multiple banks, a lot of knobs... and the knobs work as buttons too! When the controller arrived I was so happy to see that my mapping worked flawlessly with it. Grading with this setup just feels so much fun, like it of course does with any good controller. This has probably been due to the super flat image it provides making it hard to examine the correct exposure while filming.
