On July 16 the State Department put the Juarez Cartel and Los Viagras on the foreign terrorist list, and that makes eight Mexican cartels carrying the same designation as al-Qaeda. These aren't smuggling crews anymore. They fly weaponized drones against soldiers and police, and they shut down border cities when a boss falls. Your government just admitted, in the Federal Register, that terrorist armies operate within driving distance of American neighborhoods. The only thing holding that violence in Mexico is the cartels' own restraint, and restraint is not a defense.
If you do nothing, the first time you learn your crossing is closed or your route runs through a fight is when your family is already sitting in it.
