But heres the cool stuff that happened in this particular run: 18:55 - Usually, an interactive cutscene that lasts 38 seconds plays to transition you from hitting the button into the next section of the level. But in this run, it just... didnt play. No one knows what causes this, and it is so rare that it has only happened once before to eewalktub in his 1:10:32 FWR (https://youtu.be/JzExPRayewE?t=1137). I honestly didnt think that was ever gonna happen to anyone again, but here I am. The kicker is that even after getting that time save, I was still behind the WR. Thats just how good eewalktub is at this game. 27:45 - This is a new trick recently discovered by Dilly. I first clip the ASE out of bounds and then use it to unload part of the level, letting me clip through to the locked room below. This skips an annoying part of the level and saves roughly 50 seconds. 52:50 - This recent development is the most important by far, saving over 5 minutes. Its also the most complicated to explain, so here goes: As seen in my previous FWR, the Helium-3 canister can be used to get a crazy vertical boost over the invisible wall. But the boost was only so high, so this could only be used to get to a later part of the level, not skip it entirely. However, it was recently found that pressing space while getting this boost actually combines the boost with a jump, making it go WAY higher. This allowed eewalktub to boost directly to the cryo chamber, skipping all of Tombaugh. The only issue is that this is STILL dependent on framerate. Even using the new higher boost, my framerate was still not high enough on my worse (but still good) specs. The solution I found was to use an AutoHotkey macro to resize the game to a smaller resolution to increase my framerate. The gain isnt as significant as I thought it would be even at a tiny 80x45, my FPS only increases from ~95 to ~135 but it was just enough to make the launch to the cryo chamber viable for me. The lower framerate actually ended up being advantageous to me because I got a lower launch than eewalktub and had to spend less time falling (30 seconds!). Im quite surprised that I didnt figure this out a year ago, given that Minecraft speedrunners had been using macros to resize the game window for quite some time at that point. This run was obviously worse executed than eewalktubs FWR, and I think it was also worse executed than my previous FWR. However, it only took a single night of attempts and very little practice, so that is to be expected.
