A Conversation With My Pre-Pandemic Self Jeremiah Content 2024-07-01 | In July 2019, I did something I hadn’t done since I was 12; I recorded a video where I talk to my future self. Not in a jokey, scripted way as I’ve done in recent years (some of which was recorded during the same session) but something more personal and improvised, with no plan for how it would be used. There's a reason I don't do this very often; it's uncomfortable. It's like staring into the abyss. Nobody can see into the future but I couldn't conceive of how the world was about to change. As a result, I sat on this material for five years. I didn't want to look like I was ripping off a popular YouTube series that cropped up during that time. I won't go into why I finally decided to make this, other than five years seeming like a good amount of time. I just hope it resonates with people. It's the first proper continuation of A Conversation With My 12 Year Old Self. I’m really happy with how it turned out. Jean had discovered me on YouTube, through videos such as 'YouTube Is My Life', and offered me a contract to create short films (or "calentures") as well as perform in their theater productions. Honibloom Dreams was the first of our collaborations and holds a special place in my heart. It was the first time I'd ever been paid to create art, and given a free hand to explore influences such as Buster Keaton and Jan Svankmajer in ways I hadn't before.
