This is our first long trip, more than 700km, in a fully electric car. We're doing it with a small battery car, the Hyundai Ioniq EV 28 kWh. It's a very efficient car, which is supposed to charge at 65kW with a flat charging curve. But it needs to do it every 1h or so, given the small battery. We intend to use the Ionity charging network, in large part because it's the only real option along this route to Brittany. To add to the challenge, we're going on an end-of-term vacation Saturday for both the UK and France.
In this video, we check out how busy those chargers get; whether the car delivers on its promises of frugal consumption and reasonably speedy recharge; whether we get range anxiety at any point in the trip; whether the infrastructure is up to scratch along the way.
