How did a glacier that broke off in Nepal smash down to Gyirong Port in China's Xizang as a wall of water, rock and debris – in just seven minutes?

This animation captures the mudslide's plunge at a speed of 50 meters per second. People barely had time to react.

After crashing into the Gyirong Zangbo river in southwest China's Xizang Autonomous Region, the flow split in two directions, carving a path nearly 3 kilometers upstream and tens of kilometers downstream into Nepal.

The trail of destruction is laid bare in this exclusive animation.
