This Guy Edits | 7 Insights by Sundance Filmmaker Mark Webber: "Prepare & Let Go!" @ThisGuyEdits | Uploaded June 2016 | Updated October 2024, 5 hours ago.
You asked, Filmmaker Mark Webber answers:

1. Should the director edit by himself?
2. How much arguing happens over the course of the edit?
3. What do you do when the shots just aren't there?
4. Shouldn't you already write conflict into the script and not "make it up" in the edit?
5. What is the most important advise you gleaned from other directors?
6. What specifically made you adopt this style of storytelling (reality based fiction)?
7. How do you both collaborate during the fine cut stage?

Webber was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, where he spent his early years. His mother, Cheri Lynn Honkala, is a noted advocate for the homeless in Philadelphia, and was the vice-presidential nominee of the Green Party in the 2012 presidential election. He was raised by his single mother in North Philadelphia. There they spent time homeless, living in cars and abandoned buildings, and struggling to survive during the harsh winters.[5] Webber's life was subsequently the subject of a major news magazine story. He and his mother have been for many years and still are outspoken homeless advocates. They organize walk in protests, help to educate voters, and volunteer to help provide food and shelter to the urban poor in Philadelphia and elsewhere. Cheri Honkala ran for Sheriff of Philadelphia in 2011 with the Green Party on a "no evictions" platform.

THIS GUY EDITS (TGE) is a youtube channel by film editor Sven Pape, an A.C.E. award nominee, whose credits include work for directors James Cameron, Joseph Gordon-Levitt and James Franco.

TGE is not about how to run a piece of software, but rather how to tell stories creatively. Sven cuts his latest film for Sundance filmmaker Mark Webber. “Flesh & Blood” is their third collaboration.
