This was Open Research Institute's Projects Meetup on 7 April 2026 where team members discussed recent progress and ongoing work in open source digital radio and citizen science projects. Michelle presented results from Bochum and Dwingalo's collaboration on astronomical observations using large dishes for the Artemis mission, showing successful measurements that matched predicted Doppler data. Aaron reported on his development of a third implementation of the Opulent Voice modem (Charlie!) with improved MSK modulator and pulse shaping, though he encountered building issues with the Libra SDR SD card image that he plans to report as GitHub issues. The team shared updates on the Earth-Venus-Earth (EVE) link analysis, explaining that improved carrier-to-noise ratio calculations now match published results from the March 2025 CAMRAS data, with plans to apply for time at Green Bank Observatory and Effelsburg for additional receiver support. Paul discussed challenges with the Opulent Voice demonstration at B-Sides San Diego, where despite fixing the transmitter's "missing" 24 dB issue, the receiver experienced new problems likely related to changes in the numerically controlled oscillator that appear in both transmitter and receiver. Rick presented analysis of Artemis2 Doppler measurements received at DSES, showing a sinusoidal oscillation in the data and identifying a 3kHz software bias that needs correction, while also describing ongoing issues with their dish's automated steering system that requires manual backup.
Thank you to all who shared part of their day with us!
