towing a kayak full of camping gear. the Voyage 2021-09-06 | filmed 6th of feb 2021, crossing from Kaingahoa marae on the mainland to Urapukapuka island, I tow my Eco Bezhig over behind me, in order to carry all my stuff. the paddle was just under 3KM one way, and I paddled at around 4.5 km/h most of the way across.the boat was heavily loaded, with a large tent typically used for camping with a vehicle, a Queen size air mattress, and a chilly bin stuffed into the cockpit, and ten days worth of canned food, alcohol, and other luxuries in the other hatches, as well as some other gear from other members of the group.

A brief look at Kapitis tidal currents. the Voyage 2021-08-27 | In this video, I take a brief look at Kapiti island's tidal currents, and show you the effect they have as they flow past Airplane island. Understanding these currents is vital for a trip across to the island, and I strongly recommend consulting the relevant marine chart for the area, I used NZ46, although NZ4631 has much finer detail. these currents do not coincide with high and low tide, and slack water is not at peak tide, this has caught out many paddlers.

Adjusting the pedals in my new boat. (Tahe Wind 585) the Voyage 2020-09-13 | In addition to having little effect on the direction of the boat, the SmartTrack rudder system proves to be bloody useless in another way too, having to crawl into the boat to reach the screws to adjust the angle of the pedals.I'm going to replace the whole rudder and pedal system eventually, as the whole system is just flimsy as hell, a baffling design choice in an otherwise impressive boat.

Surf launch from Peka Peka beach the Voyage 2020-08-11 | This was a one way trip from Peka Peka beach to Pukerua bay, just under 30KM in distance. the waves forecast were 0.6m swell, but were definitely bigger by te time they arrived on shore.
