This is the third and likely final (for a while) Rick and Morty Marquetry project. It's really just a continuation of part two. I'm not entirely pleased with the outcome, but this project was for practice and skill building anyway. I hope you enjoy. Please remember, these videos are not meant to be instructional. I'm not an expert and have no business telling random YouTubers "how to". This is all just loving the clay.

The piece was not an antique (likely late 70's early 80's production piece). However, it was built of solid Mahogany and the internal structure and drawers were in perfect condition. Removing the factory finish was deeply satisfying, as this allowed the natural beauty of the Mahogany to shine.

#legoMaking a Box Resonated Marimba While Trying To Forget That Our Ecosystem is Collapsing.Uncanny Valley Woods2022-12-25 | This is a box resonated Marimba based on the book linked below. Keys are padauk and African Mahogany.
This is a custom design. It's built with Walnut, curly maple, and padauk. The legs beneath the chess table were inspired by a sides of a 60's pleasure ship, which I saw in B-roll on a @SampsonBoatCo video.
I built this for a good friend who will be getting married soon. Unfortunately for him, he lives in a backwards red state and had he ordered a custom table there, he'd likely have to deal with someone building it out of pallets and putting a thin blue line flag on it.
Luckily, he knows me and as a result, he gets an heirloom coffee table that isn't inherently problematic.
This #midcenturymodern table had to be ironically built in the 2020's because time is a flat circle and people don't even realize what century MCM furniture comes from.Repurposed Desktop Into Table Saw Sled with Zero Clearance InsertUncanny Valley Woods2022-09-04 | #ZeroClearance #Tablesaw

Excerpts from "Living In the Atomic Age" with Bertrand Russell.
My wife urged me to purchase it and construct it several years ago, but I am just now getting to it. I typically don't build furniture with only a glue/screw modus, however, I made and exception for this piece of outdoor furniture. Plus it gave me an opportunity to try one of Rockler's boxed plan and template sets. Typically, I do not build from plans, so this was an interesting exercise.

This led to the eventual decline of each chair in the set.

I've been through a ton of lumber yards across the country, but none are quite like Hearne. I'd regularly show up there to find giant crates of ebony, koa and mahogany, rejected from Martin Guitars, but perfect for small timers like myself. There were always treasures to be found there.
Many of those hauls ended up in boxes, waiting for the right time to be worked. This koa is a good example. It's come a long way from Hawaii, to Pennsylvania, and back to the Rockies.
I didn't want to muddle this build up with fancy joinery or inlay. This koa just needed a form to be presented in and that was my only task. It's simple, and elegant and it's a big thank you to realtors Amy and Gordon.

In this video we sing glorious praise to the YouTube algorithm and hope that it will one day bless us again with regular visibility. Moving a woodworking shop is no easy task. I've moved my woodworking shop more than four times in the past ten years, some with professional help and some without. This was one of the times I chose to go it alone.
I should have noted in the video, I made a promise to myself when I turned 30, 9 years ago. Promise one: No more cheap whiskey. Promise two: Do not move yourself. Pain follows breaking either of these rules.

After finalizing the project, I realized how long this one has actually taken to complete. It is rare that my projects span months, but this one was in process from July to October. If I'm being totally honest, my desire to do this project took a sharp turn sometime mid-August and I've been pulling myself along to finish it.
This video in particular is either one of the best I've made, or one of the worst. Followers of the channel asked for a narrated video, so I did my best. If this goes reasonably well or gets positive feedback, I may do another.

I'm glad to have this part of the project behind me. The tool chest is now stable and usable. My intention was not to make it as new, rather to stop its decay and bring it into a state where it can be properly used within my shop. I have no intention of parting with it.
During this project, my father passed away. He was very interested to see the tool chest restored and it pains me that I was unable to finish the project before his passing. It's one of those things I will have to let go.
#Preservation #Toolchest
As it is, there are a few more items to address on the chest, but they will take some time, fabrication and research before I'm ready to follow through. Specifically the locking mechanism and the grips. My fear is that the grips are not original.
Anyway, here it is, part two. I'm not sure if anyone reads these descriptions, but I'll say here, I'd really enjoy comments. Getting feedback about a project is extremely satisfying, even if that feed back is "Hey, is your brain broken?". It's all good.

Bask in the glow as our monkey society falls!Uncanny Valley Woods2021-06-23 | I did not make this channel to spread negativity or fear or hate, however, the current fate of humanity is kinda hard to overlook. We are just now finishing our dress rehearsal with dystopia and my concern is that we may be headed for all possible futures at once.
That said, I think it's time to bask in the glow of the summer Yule-F-O. Just like Christmas' Yule Log, the Yule-F-O will bring joy and comfort to us all as we slowly discover and recognize the presence of our alien park rangers. Sure, we might be the Bison clogging up traffic in this scenario, but we can all forget that reality as we bask in the glow of the Yule-F-O.

Instead of being lost during recovery in 2010, it has instead remained derelict, in a decaying orbit around Jupiter, near IO. HAL, long asleep, decays in ice and rust and extreme gravimetric pressures.
And though our own society may be on the brink of a new reality, I'm afraid it will likely be as vague a reality as the fate of this Discovery crew with our tongues freshly whetted with curiosity, wonder and more questions than answers.

www.uncannyvalleywoods.comTimber Framing Slick Preservation / Stanley #40 Restoration: And I Try To Burn Down My SanderUncanny Valley Woods2021-06-05 | I am finally beginning the process of preserving and restoring the tools from the giant hoard. I decided to start with the giant timber framing slick. The slick is a bit more than three inches wide and twenty-eight inches long with the handle included. The bevel has a convex curve that I attempt to preserve.
#restoration #timberframe
My goal wasn't to make the slick "like new", rather just to stop the rust pitting and return a working edge to the bevel.
The Stanley #40 was a real treat. I had been considering making my own scrub plane until I found this gem. It was in great shape, with only some superficial wear and tear. Again, I wasn't attempting to restore it to "like new" status, rather I wanted it shined up and ready to use.

As an old production piece, the factory used as little glue in each joint as possible, while also compromising the strength of each joint with a large staple. All of this was easily remedied. I believe a piece of vinyl or plastic was stapled to the plywood seat, originally. I removed the plywood and replaced the seat with a bit of cherry. It was probably overkill for this particular piece, but it is going to be loved and enjoyed in a home, so that's really all that matters.
