If 6th St. SE were to continue a little farther towards the Navy Yard, it would pass right by our rehearsal building, the Sail Loft. Chief Barnes was inspired by tunes that were being played in the Commodores at the time, namely Ellington's "Cottontail" and Thad Jones' "Little Pixie II" whose rhythmic material is pulled from and quoted in the brass soli. This is juxtaposed against an angular melody which offers a glimpse at how the Commodores honor classic big band jazz while creating contemporary original music.
