I've always been a huge sucker for muted guitar plucks and sweeping synth arpeggios. Kazzey keeps teasing by limiting the fullest part of the mix to just a few short bars, but hey, we get some bongos, subtle vocoder, and a hella smooth lead synth line sprinkled in. *chef's kiss*

And yup, I'm "back" :). Cheers! edit: Btw, the "(I Will Win)" used by the artists in the title is probably both a nod to some of the lyric chops and also 'cuz this is an entry into a Louis LaRoche sample flip contest that maybe CyanBlue and Salvatore should win.? But I can't find the contest details or other corroboration, or other submissions. :|

Edit: no, it's incredible, in and of itself, as a starting point. Then, antera came in and did the dat processing chain thing(s), and it's also fantastic. Added tasteful horns/brass, too. Ain't EZ. Most importantly, I think we all need a feel-good anthem right now. Hoping you're well, literally anyone reading this.
Update: I think I just made the first lyrical transcription of this song, see further below. It's for the original lyrics in the link above, so the lyrics on this post are a subset of that. Corrections always welcome :)
I've been workin' with my eyes closed, Dreamin' 'bout bein' with... you. (Aw yeah) Got my 20-20 vision, Backin' up, thinkin' 'bout.. ([you], aw yeah).
Now why can't I do all(?) the things, The way your body moves (alright)? I've maxed out all my bank accounts, Keep doing what you do (Aww yeah x3).
So intoxicated, by your love. The way you caught me waiting? Let me tell you somethin', Keep contemplatin'. From a hold on, So intoxicating, I'm so intoxicated.

I don't think I've ever heard indie lyrics bop this hard, guys. DASH30 (pictured, probably) is a kid producing from... wait for it... Idaho?! Reminds me of the time I found out that Amtrac lives in Kentucky. But really, this song will probably never be dethroned from my top 5 of 2020. Hats off to my 2CAPSLOCKBOIS(E? DASH30, this joke's for you). Released on Montaime Records, FIBRE's label, I think. Lyrics further below.
Stop there You're making me nervous I got the chance but I don't got the time Right when I came to the surface You knock me down and I'm lost in my mind I went up to the limit Down to forget it I really didn't mean to over complicate it Tried to seem hard to get Now I'm feeling scared to death And now I need to catch my breath

Honey Butter Records released this track, which makes me crave a certain Whataburger breakfast menu item (anyone else??).
Honey Butter Records - soundcloud.com/honeybutterrecordsLE Chau - Chapitre 1 [2015]James Webster2020-01-24 | This is some 4.5-year-old-school grassroots synth brilliance. I suspect that the "LE" probably means "limited edition", because not many of these songs were ever released. The tracklist is further below. Billboard (/Matt), founder of Le Chau, seems to effortlessly program his synths, and orchestrates the frequent transitions to feel almost smooth. Mixing and mastering is 99/100. The way Billboard structures his releases (too often, never) makes me believe that he consistently undervalues his own genius.

If you're mixing this into a set, you can mix those first 82 seconds in with something else, and it might just sound amazing. This is almost some sort of emerging tech-pop(?). Trying to cover Rhodes's MIDI bass programming on actual bass, especially Rhodes Rodosu's track titled "Distance", reminds me of piano exercises from Schmitt's Opus 16 when I was 9, except from hell. Speaking of hell, I've designated this channel as "not G-rated" per Google's COPPA law implementation, so if Google text-trawling bots are reading this, please, stop please bothering me, YouTubb.
Cero Rio - soundcloud.com/nothing-river Rhodes Rodosu - soundcloud.com/notrhodesUnibe@t - sugarJames Webster2019-11-23 | This song is intense. Very dissonant at times, but it's got everything you need to strut your stuff once you make it to the drops. Love the gritty synth rising up through the mix. Unibe@t is making this an addendum to his recent album, "working memories".
Unibe@t - soundcloud.com/unibe-tKorey Wade - breatheJames Webster2019-11-22 | Currently breathing, while still holding on, here. You? Things are crazy out there right now. Stay safe, everyone, and keep splicing samples, pitch bending, and re-mixing with modern processing plug-ins that simply give the ear what it wanted to hear all along. Use vocal harmonies preferably all of the time, and go to the beach when you can. Edit: Sample is provided in the comments, and please provide sample intel operations with norththumbs
Korey Wade - soundcloud.com/koreywadeColouring - About You (Escape Remix)James Webster2019-11-07 | One of my favorite productions from Escape, and a big departure from the original's style (youtu.be/g2xrPuT-Or8). Pop'd to the core. Escape usually re-processes and splices older funk samples, but this took a lot of (admittedly, prolly MIDI) composition, and I think it came out fantastically. Really been enjoying bit crushers on bass tracks like this one lately.
Colouring - soundcloud.com/colouringband Escape - soundcloud.com/escapethisNATIONAL ナショナル - HéroïneJames Webster2019-10-30 | Finally, an SFW YouTube upload of this track with the artist's original artwork (c'mon, previous uploaders). The sample is Valérie Mairesse - Bombe Anatomique (youtu.be/cljZkY1jgno), which I think is a French pun on atom bombs and stellar anatomy, but I'm too Texan to tell for certain. Whatever, these future funk and 80's-style vibes are too good to pass up.
NATIONAL ナショナル - soundcloud.com/fmnational/followersLoréan - You Got the LoveJames Webster2019-10-26 | Per Loréan's own song description, a Candi Staton sample flip (youtu.be/x7dMGw3uzEU, but so many different versions). Still, a fantastic sample flip, so we'll permit it, with proper referencing. Thomas Tonfeld is part of Loréan! I've worked with him before, and he's a great guy :).
Loréan - soundcloud.com/lorean-musicRoses Ft. Becky Cole - No Time For You (Original Mix)James Webster2019-10-04 | Maybe I can outsource a debate: What is pop music to you? Does it have to be popular, or is it a set of sounds, mixing, lyrics (/all around style) designed to sound indistinguishable from tracks near the top of "the charts"? I haven't met anyone who will 100% commit to any concrete interpretation. Let me know what you think. Anyway, this one has really grown on me, I just wish it was twice as long so I only had to replay it half as much.
Roses - soundcloud.com/rosesxofficialEgoh - Club 94 (Loréan Remix)James Webster2019-10-01 | This is a great higher-BPM adoption of an established masterpiece: youtu.be/rf2BPABhjmY. I'm glad to have an excuse to draw attention to it. The fatness of that main chorus synth... muah. If anybody knows some synth plugins that sound like that... another muah. It actually seems Egoh has vanished, and I can't link to non-existent SoundClouds :/.
Loréan - soundcloud.com/lorean-musicUniBe@t - dozeJames Webster2019-10-01 | "doze" is the track I was most looking forward to from the demo reel (youtu.be/998b4e6WZ-8). This song's title itself lets on that you're gonna need to chill, and maybe hit snooze for a few minutes, at least until the chipmunks begin to gently sing you awake @3:07. That bit crusher introduced at the same time is just perfect, imho. The filtering in the mix is always changing, and another layer is always being subtly added or removed. If you leave a dislike, it's cool, just also leave a comment that says "because of the chipmunks". I gotcha. This is the second track of I've posted from UniBe@t's relatively new album, "working memories", which is free here: unibeat.bandcamp.com/album/working-memories
UniBe@t - soundcloud.com/unibe-tUniBe@t - fantasyJames Webster2019-09-27 | He punk'd us, guys. The sample in the album's demo reel was taken sometime in the first 90 seconds, and then it's a totally different Unibe@t classic: de-tuned, chopped and reverb'd all the way into the future. Really goes nuts around @3:55. The album dropped yesterday, it's free: http://unibeat.bandcamp.com/album/working-memories
UniBe@t: soundcloud.com/unibe-tParty Pupils - Sax on the Beach (POLLUX Remix)James Webster2019-09-12 | Another one of those special finds that's been on the internet for a year, but is somehow a unique YouTube upload. POLLUX (soundcloud.com/me_pollux) seems like (s?)he's outta nowhere, but dat upload history is no joke. The recent demo of "STARDUST" is easily one of my favorites (youtu.be/y-_75YM2l3Q), but if you've made it this far, I should also mention that Party Pupils don't just get remixed, they remix others too (youtu.be/BwG1vQAjthQ). Great, now you have unwanted homework after casually reading a YouTube video description.
P.S. Maybe I'll never stop loving CAPSLOCK producers :((( oufE. Live - Boogie For LifeJames Webster2019-08-22 | Randomly stumbled upon E. Live's soundcloud the other day (soundcloud.com/elivebeats), and wasn't disappointed. It reminds me of the music that came out of the fake rocks in the flowerbeds of SeaWorld during the late 1990's, but somehow better. E. Live's style isn't so drum-centric, and the mix is crisp, but simple. There are at least six synths in the artwork, maybe even more than six synths in the song, and boiii, the vaporfeelz are thickkkkk on this one.Rhodes Rodosu - DistanceJames Webster2019-08-05 | Yes, the intro is brutal, but I dare you to tough it out for 17 seconds. Or even start @0:50. This track is 10 days stale but no YouTubb upload yet? Formerly "ロードスRhodes" (see: youtu.be/k6PNSOyvbps), this guy is way up near the top on the list of my favorite sample flippers. There are times in this track where things start chugging along like the rumblings of some inevitable future funk engine (@2:10), but you're gonna need some bass response in your speakers (cars, aux speakers, good headphones). It's not so great from most phone or laptop speakers.
Rhodes Rodosu - soundcloud.com/notrhodesUnibe@t - ☺James Webster2019-07-23 | Probably fast forward to @1:04. Then get hyped, because this is a preview of Unibe@t's new album, which was supposedly released 4 days ago, but not really. I guess the album will drop when Unibe@t is ready to drop it, which is A-OK on my end.
Unibe@t - soundcloud.com/unibe-tLucky Talisman - Down at the ParkwayJames Webster2019-07-23 | This is too loud, and it's awesome. Lucky Talisman wastes almost no time before dropping you into a yuge disco stew, where you marinade as a giant disco ball buckled into the driver's seat of a fully-automated Tesla travels towards you at 250 km/h . At ~@1:48, the Tesla arrives, and John Travolta wins yet another dance contest. All 10,002 people at the scene celebrate with an incredibly fulfilling glass of M I L L E R L I T E (see artwork). Because it's M I L L E R L I T E, everyone actually loses weight due to how many toasts they give each other, all naturally alternating arms to conserve aesthetic muscular symmetry, building muscle mass, because it's M I L L E R L I T E. And that's my technical commentary on production elements, thank you
Lucky Talisman - soundcloud.com/luckytalismaniamalex - Same FeelingJames Webster2019-07-22 | Yet another iamalex case of sample splicing with filter sweeps and processing chains that sound like candy tastes. He kinda took a break from house music and did some hip-hop/lo-fi stuff, so I'm just glad to hear he's still producing in my fave genre. The roving synth arpeggio we're introduced to @1:57 is so simple, but I love it. Same Feeling for the electric guitar (prolly MIDI) about 30 seconds later.
iamalex - soundcloud.com/iamalexcphLeBRON - LipsJames Webster2019-07-03 | I can't find this track by searching YouTube for "LeBRON" with *any* other combination of words, because American basketball. But hey... "you got the kinda lips that [unintelligible synthesizer sounds]", so that's a plus :D. Edit: in hindsight, I think my headphones favor good mid-range response, which is what you probably want for listening to this track.
LeBRON (NOT LeBron James) - soundcloud.com/thisislebronLast Island, Alex Martyn - Miles AwayJames Webster2019-07-02 | I love how crunchy it gets @1:05, even before mixing in the rest of the mids and bass. You get a little taste of the full mix, and soon you're in a bridge hoping for another chorus, until FINALLY @2:43. Then the lo-fi outro. I think it's one of those unique collabs that you'll never figure out whether it's chill or it's a club banger. Released on the Island Life collective: soundcloud.com/islandlifecollective
Last Island - soundcloud.com/lastisland Alex Martyn - soundcloud.com/alexmartynKorey Wade - Not Too TightJames Webster2019-06-16 | Is that picture Korey Wade as a kid? No idea. Is that Korey subtly rapping in the chorus? Still, no idea. But I do know that this sample has been used in some classics (for me, personally: youtu.be/5ZYW1d5K6n8 & youtu.be/zA9z4vGzUDk), and Korey's processing chains are now my favorite, even though I might regret admitting it. Come by and list your plug-ins, how much they would've cost, and how much USD someone could prosecute you for if your music project ever accidentally turned a profit and you were reprimanded by Sony.
Korey Wade - soundcloud.com/koreywadeSteve Hartz - Let Me Show YouJames Webster2019-05-29 | Steve just came out of nowhere. I suspect that this is a Lenno project, 'cuz who has this production quality with only 117 followers on SoundCloud and some overlap in record label activity with Lenno? Whatever, I'm going to the beach this weekend (update: Nope. Nope, I'm not. I'll be working), and I'll be jamming this with 100% probability (update: still true).
Steve Hartz - soundcloud.com/steve-hartz-musicPhonat - Light Years [2008]James Webster2019-05-29 | Apparently, this isn't on YouTube yet(?). According to metadata on my hard drive, this single from Phonat (aka Michele Balduzzi) was released in 2008, and I humbly submit it into the Skynet digital cloud for the purpose of eternal preservation. Because it bops. I do wonder what Michele is up to these days. It's been a couple of years since the last production (youtu.be/3WNXlMhqyA8), and I just hope he moved onto better things.
Phonat - soundcloud.com/phonatSAINT PEPSI - Private Caller (Macross 82-99 Edit)James Webster2019-05-16 | No, wait, why am I uploading this? Why has no one else uploaded this? It could be because there is no money in vaporwave and sampling in general, and Pepsi Co. killed SAINT PEPSI (tho he was reincarnated as SKYLAR SPENCE / Ryan DeRobertis). But no, you need to hear this, and it needs to be posted, and I'm good on copyright strikes for now, so here we are! If I don't link to the original, I'm doing Ryan DeRobertis and @ElFamosoDemon a disservice, so here it is: youtube.com/watch?v=Ki-fATpXa00

Pikachu is really controversial these days (u kno), so let's not go there. The artist picks the artwork, and I just report it.
Robotaki - soundcloud.com/robotakiED. - InterstellarJames Webster2019-01-23 | I've been in a cheesy disco kind of mood lately, and there's some pretty thick cheese during the intro and outro. But I promise, the meat of this song is beautiful, pure chipmunk-future funk. The vibe also reminds me that summer days are only a few months away :). Thanks, E(lektric)D(reams).
ED. - soundcloud.com/elektricdreamsBull In China - Feeel (Mr. Moustache Remix)James Webster2019-01-04 | I lose it when he says "Mr. Moustache remix" (@0:55), but it's still a real dope little track, and the original is great too: youtu.be/ex9ITwYQLY4. So anyone that's like "Yeah Frenchhouse is died" or "Futurefunk is no" and even "Electrohhh, no" just ain't right.
Snowshoo - soundcloud.com/snowshooUnibe@t - trash v7James Webster2018-11-29 | Most Unibe@t songs start abrasively, but then quickly give the ear things it didn't know it wanted to hear. There will be chops, ping pong delay, fake record player noise, all kinds of filter sweeps, and hopefully dancing. Unibe@t's relationship with trash (youtu.be/4VIDDtQcFvg) is long and involved (youtu.be/evoy0cxuGeY). Meanwhile, everyone's waiting to see whether or not Tendencies accepts Unibe@t's request to be his dad. Best of luck, champ.
Unibe@t - soundcloud.com/unibe-tiamalex - Move OnJames Webster2018-11-27 | Another work of sample-splicing funk brilliance, probably my favorite iamalex track so far. iamalex - soundcloud.com/iamalexcphFIBRE x ev.exi - CascaraJames Webster2018-11-26 | These two are both a couple of my favorite producers, so it doesn't surprise me to see a great collab. track coming from them. It's not a club banger, but it wasn't supposed to be. It sounds almost like an upbeat nerdy shoegaze bit, but then nerdy's pretty cool usually, so, no problem. Hopefully you enjoy the pitch bending, ADHD bassline, phasers, and synth design as much as I do.

iamalex - soundcloud.com/iamalexcphstills - Ring EaterJames Webster2018-11-10 | You think the frequency space is full, and then the guitar riff comes in, and you say "oh". About the simplest chord progression you can engineer, but it's all about the production. stills is an up-and-coming producer that happened to catch my ADHD ear and keep it for over three minutes.
