Hundreds of thousands of Russians are estimated to have left their country since the start of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

President Putin began a military mobilisation in September 2022 described as "partial" by the authorities, but in reality it meant most men were at risk of the draft.

Families started leaving in droves, creating long queues lasting for days on Russia's borders with Georgia and Kazakhstan.
