This year NEA celebrates the 60th anniversary of the NEA-ATA merger. Black public-school educators in the American Teachers Association, and their white counterparts in the National Education Association, joined together to become one united voice for public education, educators, and students.
The merger ensured that NEA's commitment to equality and racial and social justice would remain central to the association's role as advocates for educators' and students’ rights. That work continues today through our NEA racial and social justice work.
