At Kingston we have been suffering from a lack of readily available 600 volts DC for the subway cars and other electric traction. This diesel engine is coupled to a 600 volt generator and has not run in a very, very long time. On the first fireup, it ran away and had to be choked with a steel sheet, we later found this was because the crankcase ventilation pipe had been plugged. After this was fixed, the machine was able to clear its throat and turned out to be very controllable. We are now able to make power for various tests.
