May 8, 2026 marked the 60th Anniversary of Blank Park Zoo. With an initial donation of $150,000 from A.H. Blank, the Des Moines Children's Zoo opened in 1966. The Zoo has gone through an number of changes and expansions since, becoming a top attraction for the state of Iowa.
