wow, can you believe it, guys? yugioh zexal becomes a teenager today! it got here so fast!
despite how busy i am currently i would be a fool to not make something for the 13 year anniversary of the series that completely changed my life. i had a more traditional amv in mind (that i still want to make) but there was no way i was finishing that on time... however, i did get back into assclass recently (really sorry, i wish this wasnt true either) and so i decided to make a zexal ver of the first season 2 opening :3 its not a perfect 1-to-1 recreation because i wanted to focus on scene matching & flow more than complete accuracy, you can check out the comparison & commentary here: https://youtu.be/f5eLOlpTFnw

so you should really watch yugioh zexal. the protagonist, yuuma tsukumo, is a young duelist who aspires to be the greatest, despite his amateur skills. he finds himself reluctantly partnered with a dueling spirit called astral. together, they pursue the numbers to recover astrals scattered memories, becoming numbers hunters while cultivating their dueling abilities during their adventures. astrals memories were scattered in the form of 100 number cards. while originally he only retained one of the numbers, he knew that when two or more numbers confront in a duel, they will battle each other to consume one another, allowing astral to absorb vanquished numbers and recover pieces of his memories. yuuma and astral, despite having a rocky start, have a very close relationship with each other. astral is able to tell what yuuma is feeling during duels and helps to calm him down, and yuuma worries about and cares for astral immensely. regarding each other as both partners and close friends, they make an outstanding team. when they first met, yuuma had mixed feelings about astral when all he did was tell him how to duel. though astral was insightful and was always thinking about what his opponent would be capable of doing, yuuma ignored his advice and continued playing his way. eventually, astral figured out a way to have yuuma listen to him, and over time, yuuma began trusting astral more and more with each duel. they are shown on numerous occasions to be able to talk telepathically. at times, yuuma didnt openly admit he was worried about or cared for astral, usually feigning anger and yelling at him, which only made astral smile because he knew yuumas true feelings. in dire situations, yuuma openly showed concern and proclaimed he would do anything to protect astral from danger. it is shown that y")

editing-wise, im super proud of this!! i started it when i got an inspiration kick around the end of january, and you can kind of tell at the end i lost inspo... again, its 30 seconds long.... what do you expect.... but overall im very happy with how it turned out! cant go wrong with this color scheme either ❤

sorry that i went radio silent for almost a year (not that i think anyone really cares) ill talk more abt it when i upload my mep dump.. but i was into toz in like 2017, i played some of the game but got stuck & dropped it.. then i was in a restaurant for my dads birthday & they played a live rendition of this song, i dont really Like post malone but hearing the song with like, not his voice, made me think hmmm it wouldnt be bad to edit it, i wonder which pairing i could use... & my brain came up with sormik. & then i fell down a Hole. this amv could be read as platonic tbh but i imagined it more romantic in my head
have been forcing my friend ceres to watch me play for a bit, were both busy now but it was enough to get me hooked like reading the wiki & looking up pics & shit . u know how it is. will probably be editing these two more in upcoming mep parts ❤
so yes ermm.. i had this planned out for quite awhile but while im good at finishing mep parts on time im HORRIBLE at finishing personal projects .. i did the majority of this amv TODAY even. i had the brilliant idea to cut the clips & get the timing properly in sony vegas first & then do all the actual editing in ae but.. i started getting too obsessed about the timing of the draft & then realized id be rendering all these clips & taking up storage on my disk for no reason, then one of the episodes had a watermark in it so i had to replace it but the new one i got had a second of black at the beginning, & it was a whole thing... then for some reason my media encoder was STRUGGLINGG to render despite the only effects being gaussian blur & motion tile (& as u can see the amv isnt even a minute long??) so i had to render natively in ae as a .mov & then rerender in media encoder as .mp4 so annoying .. but i did get it finished! ive been wanting to edit raw more & i wish i had spent more time on it but i am happy with the result i think ^_^
the main inspo i had was @ribbonamvs , the best raw editor EVER i am always in awe of the stuff they post. i dont think i came close to their skill level here but from studying their amvs i feel like im learning a lot...!
i also got inspired by corydalis, AzureVamp, & ZeldaTheXeno (not gonna mention their accoutns like ribs in case they dont want me to) for certain effects (corydalis for the end section, AzureVamp for the first bit of the handshaking section, & ZeldaTheXeno for the second bit of the handshaking section) i hope i made my own ones unique enough that u dont feel i stole 😅

OK SO LET ME EXPLAIN.
um i started shipping kuroha x seto from kagerou project as a joke but its not a joke anymore . you will see more context when i upload my mep dump bc again i prefer uploading updates in big chunks but i couldnt Not upload something for setos bday today like he literally has irreversibly changed the trajectory of my life these past few months...

ok so yea um a lot of the effects i did try to keep pretty similar to the original effects i did which is why quite a few of them are pretty simple/stuff i wouldnt rly do nowadays, i did have to change a few scenes due to Not having the right fanart for it (yes i did commission every piece of fanart in this vid bc NO ONE LIKES THIS PAIRING LMFAOOO) but overall i am very happy with how this turned out. its been sooo long since i edited cute pastel fx & it was so fun to return to ^_^
