Within 10 minutes, I want to show you how to seed bare dirt & have a lush level lawn in 6 easy steps.
The first thing we are doing is leveling out the lawn using the Landzie drag level and Ryan Knorr Lawn Level.
Next, we are also using Soil Hume from Simple Lawn Solutions as part of the Ryan Knorr Lawn Essentials box. This is optional, but I’ve been using simple lawn solutions products on my lawn all season and they’ve been great! It’s going to help chelate the nutrients in the soil making them readily available for plant uptake.
Then, its time to throw down some seed. You wanna select a top quality seed. We are using Ryan Knorr’s Elite Perennial Ryegrass Blend. For Perennial Ryegrass, you’ll need about 5 to 10 lbs of seed per 1,000 SF for bare dirt. We are going with a 25 lb bag which is plenty to cover 2,000 SF plus have extra to seed weak spots as the turf starts to establish.
Once the seed is down, we are going to do a bit of light raking to encourage great seed-to-soil contact followed by rolling it in to smooth everything out and reduce washout.
Next, you wanna put down starter fertilizer. We are going with Scott’s Starter fertilizer plus weed preventer. This contains mesotrione or what is more commonly known as Tenacity which will prevent weeds from germinating but allow the new grass seed to grow. Note... Always read the label since there are restrictions on where, when and how to use this... Including restrictions on certain grass types.
And to top it all off, we’ll be putting down a thin top dressing of peat moss. This will help protect the seed and retain moisture to aid in faster and more even germination.
If you follow these steps, keep everything watered, and stay on top of weak spots as things are establishing... You'll be rewarded with a lush level lawn!
