Smash 4 Wii U - Level 9 CPU Meta Knight squashed by Perpetually Bouncing Bowser Bomb @OmegaTyrant

Omega Tyrant Smash Wii U's AI is a definite step up from Smash3DS' AI, though the bouncing rope exploit still works on them, albeit not as well as before. They'll actually hit you doing it this time, and air dodge through the Bowser Bombs, so killing with it without getting damaged is tricky. However, they still jump on the rope from below to attack instead of attacking from the sides, so you're pretty much guaranteed to win just by doing this because the trades will obviously benefit you.

On another note, my Smash Wii U's bundle shipment was delayed, so I have to wait even longer for it. However, the friend handling getting it for me, gave me a copy of Smash Wii U to borrow in the mean time. However without the bundle I have no Gamecube controller adapter, so no Gamecube controllers until it finally comes. At first I thought no big deal, I'll use the Pro controller, but the Pro controller ended up being a disappointment. First thing is it's analog stick is barely better than the Circle Pad; for some reason going more than like 2/5 tilt registers as a dash, which shits on precision so much. Second, the right stick placement really isn't suitable. At first I thought I would be able to handle it, but my index finger really isn't suited for c-stick duties. Maybe it's something I could get used to like I did with clawing, but I don't see my index finger ever doing as good as my thumb. So now I'm using the Tablet until I get my bundle, which has a good analog stick. It's a shame these controllers couldn't have their right analog stick below the buttons, their shoulder buttons are SO MUCH better than the Gamecube controller's. Hopefully the new Smash Gamecube controllers have digital R/L buttons at least, so I don't need to keep removing the springs out of them.

Smash Ultimate: A team of seven level 9 CPUs vs. pacifist Jigglypuff

Omega Tyrant 2023-05-27 | Can a Jigglypuff defeat a team of seven level 9 CPUs without throwing out a single attack and without the aid of team attack, using only its movement to win? Well this video being uploaded makes the answer to that obvious. Super Happy Tree (known as Yoshi's Island N64 in previous games) is still as fun a stage to screw around with the AI as it always been, gotta wonder what Sakurai was thinking when he added those cloud platforms to this stage all the way back in Smash 64.

Ultimate: A team of seven level 9 CPU Kazuyas fight the most powerful level 1 CPU in the universe

Omega Tyrant 2022-11-29 | So after I did this with the Falcos, I decided to give it a go with the most notorious level nine CPU of Ultimate. Can a super tanky level 1 Ganon still win?

This is the setup the level 1 CPU Ganon has:

*Gave Ganon the level 99 Black Knight spirit for its high stats and Armor Knight bonus
*Gave Ganon a support spirit with Slow Super Armor
*Gave the Black Knight spirit tank style, to ramp up offense and defense farther
*In Custom Balance, I maxed out Ganon while decreasing Kazuya's damage output to the minimum

Like with the Falcos, this is the best setup Ganon has. He will almost nearly always instantly die if he goes offstage, but even if given more mobility to recover, the Kazuyas will never let him back. And armor is necessary or else Ganon will just be perpetually combo'd to death. So the play is to sacrifice mobility entirely in favor of making Ganon hit hard as possible and take as many hits as possible, while getting defense as high as possible is also vital to keeping his armor intact.

Overall the level 1 Ganon's success rate was still very low, Kazuya's back throw in particular was brutal and would essentially always send Ganon to his doom if a Kazuya did it to him, as seen in this video. Kaz also has a strong command grab to ignore Ganon's armor, and has his own infamous armored and invincible moves to go through the few blows Ganon will throw out (which also gets demonstrated in this video). Plus Kaz's very heavy weight will also let him survive blows that a lighter character wouldn't, which is significant when Ganon's AI will barely attack at all. But I did eventually get the successful video you see here.

Ultimate: A team of seven level 9 CPU Falcos fight the most powerful level 1 CPU in the universe

Omega Tyrant 2022-06-05 | Who would win?! Seven of the most advanced artificially intelligent warriors, or one tanky boi?

Back in Melee I made a video of three level 9 CPU Falcos at handicap 1 fighting a level 1 CPU Ganon at handicap 9, and then replicated it in Smash 4 with seven Falcos, with both being some of my channel's most popular videos, so I decided to try making a version of it in Ultimate utilizing spirits and Custom Balance. Here is what I did:

*Gave Ganon the level 99 Black Knight spirit for its high stats and Armor Knight bonus
*Gave Ganon a support spirit with Slow Super Armor
*In Custom Balance, I maxed out Ganon while decreasing Falco's damage output to the minimum

I tried out many different Spirit combos, and this is the one I was able to get success without doing farther alterations like modifying the launch rate or giving the Falcos a damage handicap. The Slow Super Armor was essential, as Ganon couldn't get hits in otherwise (and the Super Armor spirit didn't seem as effective), while Ganon needed the defense boost of Armor Knight to keep his armor intact long enough to stand a chance. He also couldn't recover at all even when given movement boosting spirits, so I ended up abandoning that idea in favor of going all in on the tank idea. This could be maybe optimized more, as Ganon's success rate was still not good with this setup, but hey I got a successful recording and that's all that matters. You would also need a different setup if you wanted to play this idea with other people, as the Ganon could be obviously camped out easily with this setup (which the CPUs are too dumb to do).

Smash Ultimate - An (Almost) JV 4 Stock

Omega Tyrant 2022-02-26 | I haven't been playing much Smash since Sora's release, as I've been preoccupied with other games lately (mainly Pokemon), but I played some a few days ago and got this almost JV 4 stock. "Almost", as in the only damage I took was a single percent from being magnified, rather than ever getting hit. Nothing fancy in the match though, but it is a demonstration on why you shouldn't keep doing standing getup from ledge, especially against ROB. I still do not have a new computer and still cannot record with my capture card, so I had to record this with the ingame video editor, which is why the video quality is lower than usual.

Smash Ultimate - Luigi wins by doing absolutely nothing: Alternative Takes (Pyra & Mythra #2)

Omega Tyrant 2021-11-30 | This is another of those clips I got when trying to get a clip of Mythra for the Fighters Pass 2 LWBDAN video where she turned into Pyra before SDing, which was quite the shame here as I did finally get the Randall assist clip I really wanted. But getting the Aegis separately was the priority, so into the bin this clip went, while eventually I gave up on trying to get solo Mythra on Yoshi Story and tried it on Wily's Castle with eventual success. I did end up getting the Randall assist clip anyway though against Sora of all characters, so it worked out well in the end, and this is still a nice clip to upload on its own.

Also I still don't have my computer issues fixed yet, so I'm still restricted to only being able to upload pre-existing raw clips I have, as I cannot edit nor record videos on my computer. Uploads will also probably slow down from here until my computer issues are fixed (or I somehow get a new computer).

Omega Tyrant 2021-11-23 | This was actually the first clip recorded for the Fighters Pass 2 LWBDAN video, just done quickly to prove CPU Kazuya could be beaten before I started getting clips proper for all the FP2 characters and to get a screenshot for this tweet twitter.com/TheOmegaTyrant/status/1443641748417220612. I ended up not using it though, as I prefer to not get walkoff SDs (which I was already going to have to do for Min Min), and I realized I already done three clips in the main LWBDAN videos on Suzaku Castle (Ken, Falco, and Terry), so I ditched it and recorded a different clip on a different stage instead (which I got on Smashville, ending the series with yet one more unique stage and one of the most "neutral" stages at that).

Also sorry for the oversaturation of LWBDAN Alternative Takes clips since my return, I still haven't figured out what is going with my computer and currently I'm using a crappy backup laptop, so I'm restricted to already recorded raw Elgato files of short clips that need nothing more than trimming. I do plan to diversify like before whenever my hardware enables me to, though I don't know how long that will take...

Smash Ultimate - Level nine CPU Kazuya vs. Flare Blitz

Omega Tyrant 2021-11-10 | How does Ultimate's most notorious CPU fares against the average Elite Smash Charizard? I did a video before showing the AI's capacity to deal with Flare Blitz, so I thought to try it against the most feared CPU of all.

Sorry about the duller colors on this video, my computer is suddenly unable to render any videos without completely crashing, leaving me unable to edit videos. So to get this video up, I had to either upload the raw Elgato video file with the dulled colors and trim it through Youtube's editor, or upload through Smash's native video uploading program, where it would then be left at lower quality and 30 FPS, and I decided the former would be the better option. Hopefully this problem is just my computer needing to be cleaned out, otherwise I absolutely can't afford to buy a new computer right now, and as long as I'm unable to render videos, I won't be able to upload anything more complicated than a raw clip.

Smash Ultimate - Luigi wins by doing absolutely nothing: Alternative Takes (Pyra & Mythra #1)

Omega Tyrant 2021-11-05 | The most annoying thing about trying to get a clip of Mythra for the Fighters Pass 2 LWBDAN video was her frequently switching to Pyra before she could possibly SD. Eventually I did get a solo Mythra clip to use for it alongside a solo Pyra clip, but in the process gathered a few clips of where Mythra switched to Pyra before SDing. Here is one of those clips, which would have been great for the video and add yet one more unique stage in New Donk City, a stage I even tried many times with many other characters without success. Oddly, while getting a solo Mythra clip was such a pain, the inverse of a solo Pyra clip was not so, as Pyra's AI is ultimately is a lot more SD prone and so I got a clip easily of her SDing without switching even on a pretty basic stage like the Cloud Sea of Alrest.

Omega Tyrant 2021-11-02 | I mentioned in the prior video description how I originally did Sephiroth on a different stage for the LWBDAN Fighters Pass 2 video, until I tried Sora on Yoshi's Story and got a successful clip there after having successfully done Sora on Hanenbow. After which I decided to redo Sephiroth on Hanenbow instead of Magicant, as I wanted to have a clip on Hanenbow with Megalovania playing, and having Sephiorth on that stage plus music combo just added more to the peculiarity. Smash Ultimate - Luigi wins by doing absolutely nothing: Alternative Takes (Sora #1)

Omega Tyrant 2021-10-31 | Originally for the LWBDAN Fighters Pass 2 video, I was going to settle for getting Sora on Hanenbow, after some more desirable stages proved fruitless and I wanted to get Megalovania on Hanenbow into the video somewhere. I got a couple successful clips on it, before I decided to give Yoshi's Story one final try to get a Randall assist in the series somewhere, and push the unique stage count up yet one more, which ended up working with Sora, leading to me using that clip instead (and redoing Sephiroth on Hanenbow, who originally was done on a different stage). So here is one of the two Hanenbow clips I got on Sora.

Omega Tyrant 2021-10-22 | Finally, here is Luigi beating each of the second Fighters Pass DLC characters as level 9 CPUs by doing absolutely nothing.

I'm happy with how I managed to push the stage variety even farther in this video when before I seemed to have been near the limit, adding five more stages not used in the base game nor FP1 videos, overall pushing the total amount of unique stages used across all the characters in Ultimate for these LWBDAN videos to 64, with none being used more than three times. I remember when doing this back in Smash 4 I could only manage getting clips on 20 stages, 5 of which were plain walkoffs, I certainly couldn't fathom over tripling that amount in the next game at the time. As for the bonus team battle at the end, the custom stage is totally rigged towards Luigi and it's horribly basic, although the AI certainly could have survived the tilting platform and reach Luigi (especially through Steve's blocks).

Smash Ultimate - Luigi wins against every level nine Fighters Pass 1 CPU by doing absolutely nothing

Omega Tyrant 2020-02-07 | Here is Luigi beating each of the first Fighters Pass DLC characters as level 9 CPUs by doing absolutely nothing. I know Piranha Plant wasn't a part of the Fighters Pass and I included him in the base game LWBDAN video, but included him in this video anyway as altogether they're technically the "season 1" DLC, plus a bit more content for this video and another character for the ending fight is always nice. The ending team match may not be a stock match as usual, but still amusing in how five games in and the AI still completely disregards team attack.

If you''re wondering how Luigi won the team match, team score in Time mode combines the score of every teammate together. So Luigi came out ahead after the negative scores of the DLC team brought their combined score below Luigi's.

Omega Tyrant 2019-08-01 | Here's a new series of highlights called R.O.BBED, showcasing matches where I'm at a big deficit and on the verge of defeat but I do some ROB stuff and steal the set away. In this old match of mine from Elite where a pretty good Ganon named Jazzy has me at last stock death percent with a stock lead and I made multiple errors that should have very well cost me the game, but he fails to capitalize, where I then get his stock and quickly zero-death him immediately afterward in a non-flashy manner to steal the game. I ended up winning the set 3-0.

Smash Ultimate World of Light Hard: Giga Bowser (No damage/no spirits/no skills) - Mario

Omega Tyrant 2019-07-30 | This video contains a lot of WOOHOO!

Giga Bowser is really slow and lumbering, and his attacks are all pretty reactable, but besides his ability to corner you he does have the nastiest trait for a boss to have; unpredictability. Giga Bowser fights more like a normal AI opponent than a boss with clear scripted patterns, and as a result the timing for when he'll throw attacks out varies tremendously, sometimes he'll just stand there for a while not doing anything or just walking, sometimes he'll throw out attacks right after the endlag of his prior attack finishes, and sometimes it's any other timing inbetween. He can additionally charge his smashes to mess up the timing of his attacks even more, several runs were lost from me trying to get above him and then either air dodging too soon and getting hit by a u-smash he decided to charge, or air dodging too late and getting hit by an uncharged u-smash or u-tilt. As a result I had to play really cautiously as I could never know how much hits I could get in beyond the ending lag of his attacks and the slightest overextension when he could act could get me hit or put me into a spot where damage was unavoidable, and with the fight taking so long without spirits and skills the room for error was tremendous.

I decided to use Mario mainly for thematic reasons, though it's doubtful he was the best choice. In some initial runs I was trying Jigglypuff, whose ability to stay airborne so much made her a lot safer, though her DPS was a bit worse and besides thematic reasons I didn't want the video taking too long, so I went with Mario instead. Marth could have also been used again, though countering Giga Bowser would be trickier than Galleom as he has a lot more multi-hitting moves it still should have worked out fine and Marth wouldn't have particular issues avoiding the Fire Breath, but I didn't want to use Marth for a second straight boss and wanted to do at least one without utilizing a counter move.

Omega Tyrant 2019-07-28 | I'm finally getting around to playing World Of Lght, not from a lack of interest in it, but rather me having been focusing on training online/playing competitively when I played Smash or playing other games, so far I'm one of the people who actually enjoys it. Anyway anyone who kept up with my channel pre-Ultimate knows I love the bosses in Smash, and I made a lot of videos out of beating them without taking damage, so against WoL's first boss, my old friend Galleom, I decided to do a no damage run of him on the hardest difficulty, without using any spirits nor skills. With no spirits his durability is pretty ridiculous, so even though this Galleom is slower and easier to react to than Brawl Galleom, he takes far far longer to kill here, which means a lot more room for error against him. I decided to use my original boss killer Marth, whose Counter manages to deal some pretty good damage to Galleom despite the lack of any spirit/skill boosts, while he can deal pretty safe hits with decent DPS inbetween. Lucina would be a superior choice, as landing consistent tippers against the boss' ever-shifting hurtbox is infeasible and the extra hitlag from tippers is very undesirable, but I do not have her unlocked in WoL yet. The biggest threat from Galleom is the combination of his big spin attack and being difficult to cross up, if he has you too close to the sides while he does it it's impossible to avoid damage, as you would have to get magnified to avoid it. I lost a couple runs to that but it wasn't too frequent of an issue, and I made note to try crossing him up when I could to avoid getting stuck like that.

This wasn't too hard to get, and overall I'm really happy to finally get a boss video from Ultimate on here, look forward to more in the future!

Omega Tyrant 2019-07-27 | K. Rool was defeated by betrayal in the original LWBDAN video, but how does he fare in another DK stage without a Klaptrap uprising?

It has been a while, main news since last time is that I've been working on the immigration process for my fiancee and we've made significant progress with it, hopefully she gets the visa and we can finally marry by the end of the year. As for Ultimate related stuff, I'm pretty much a solo ROB main at this point, Ultimate ROB is really clicking with me on a level no Smash character has ever done so before. Dedede, Ridley, and Wolf are well on the backburner for me now, with me barely touching them lately, and I've been barely playing non-ROB characters for fun at all. I'm going to be competing in tournaments more often, and will be aiming to go to out of region stuff soon, I feel better as a player than I ever was in Smash 4. Hopefully that translates into some breakout results soon, ha.

Smash Ultimate - Crazy Hand Black Hole Bullshiet

Omega Tyrant 2019-04-13 | Back when I did my 9.9 no stock loss Classic run with Ridley, one of my runs that made it to the Hands and got far in the fight was ended by this particularly brutal combination of moves, with the black hole leaving me stuck offstage as the Hands did their screen zoom move, causing the blast zones to come zoom in past me and kill me in the process. This video would have went live yesterday, but the original spelling of the title kept triggering the demonetization bot as apparently "bad words" are bad for advertisers and Youtube's "review" was taking forever, so I reuploaded today with an intentional misspelling and that seems to work.

Smash Ultimate: Ganondorfs True Weakness - Bouncing Bombs

I've been playing around in Elite with non-ROB characters, and among others I've been playing some Ganon again for fun. I found the way I died here against this Link funny, the Link was solid and won the set between us, though perhaps things would have been different if I didn't edgeguard so terribly here, oh well.

Smash Ultimate - R.O.B.s recovery is broken

Omega Tyrant 2019-03-22 | Even as a ROB main I have to admit Robo Burner is pretty ridiculous.

After all those times I survived Ivysaur's dair over 100%, getting stage spiked underneath the stage without teching, getting double spiked, and all the other crazy recoveries I made that other characters would not have survived, I got inspired to make this video of ROB taking a high percent Ivy dair and recovering through every game universe in Smash (well other than his own, too bad ROB doesn't have his own home stage). It was initially just going to be a few clips, but I decided to go full bore with it and include a clip of going through a stage from every franchise. Getting all those clips though made this video take quite a bit longer to complete than I thought it would but I am happy with how the video turned out.

Smash Ultimate - Elite Smash: Reverse 3-Stock on barely damaged Mario

Omega Tyrant 2019-03-08 | When playing on Elite Smash against this Mario, after I won a decently close game 1 he started game 2 with a zero-death and then took my second stock while only taking 18%, but then I managed to bring it all the way back and win. I didn't pull off anything crazy and messed up some kill setups that would have ended this match sooner, but this is the biggest deficit I've came back from to win in any single game that I can remember since I started playing competitively back in Brawl. For an additional fun note, in the third and final game of the set I proceeded to 3 stock this Mario, essentially taking six stocks in a row after he nearly 3 stocked me in this game.

I tried staying away, but the AI Zamus ignored it entirely and blew it up on us both, where she was then launched the opposite direction so I died a few frames before her. If only that f-smash hit on the tech roll in... Also shoutout to the Bullet Bill before that almost killing me at 32% and dealing 55%.

Smash Ultimate - Classic 9.9 Intensity Before Final Boss: Ridley (No Stock Loss)

Omega Tyrant 2019-03-02 | NOTE: The recording somehow cut out for about two seconds at 0:46 and there's a garbled frame at 0:47, but since nothing really was missed in those two seconds and the rest of the recording went fine, I decided to still upload this run.

I've decided to try beating Classic by reaching 9.9 intensity before the final boss without stock loss (which also means no tickets nor continues) with more characters, possibly every one, and for the second after Ganondorf I went with Ridley, as he is one of my mains and I thought it would be pretty easy yet fun. As for how the run went, even when only taking the runs where I got a perfect in the first round it didn't take long at all to get this, as besides getting pretty simple matches, Ridley can KO opponents very fast so getting the intensity quickly up to 9.9 isn't difficult at all.

You start off with a 1v1 against a lower level Samus and can KO her fairly quickly, then there's a 1v2 against Fox/Falco but they're weaker than usual and you can just up smash as they come down from over the Great Fox's fin, while KOing them in 2-3 smashes. The third round is a 1v1 against Olimar on Distant Planet, where you can camp at the edge of the hill underneath the platform and up smash him as he comes over and then KO him with a charged f-smash if he gets to the side of you or just grab him with side-b and carry him off to the walkoff up the hill. For the fourth round it's a 1v3 vs. Mario, Peach, and Rosalina, but since it's on Mario Galaxy, there's a permanent walkoff on both sides. which means you'll KO them very easily with a side-b, while f-smash also KOs them very early here. Then it's a 1v1 against MK on the fairly standard Halberd, so unless bad item luck happens it'll be simple, and you can even win near-instantly if you get him with a side-b off the main platform before it takes off, but that is hard to do and I never got it as the AI will try to avoid fighting off the main platform and you only have a sub-10 second window to do it. Then the final fight before the Hands is a 1v1 against Zero Suit Samus on Frigate Orpheon, so yet another simple match on a basic stage, but she is at the highest level AI here, so if you get too antsy and are trying to rush things it might be a little rough, but there should be no need to rush it as you should easily be near 9.5 by this point from beating the prior rounds so fast, and since it's just a CPU in a basic fight with items it won't be anything difficult unless you get bad item luck (though I was rushing it a bit still to finish this quickly and was punished quite a bit for it).

Really with Ridley the only hard part is beating the Hands, but with Ridley's fairly high DPS, very large hitboxes, high survivability, ease of going offstage, and having multiple jumps and decent mobility to avoid attacks, beating the Hands isn't that hard either and I beat them the second time I got a satisfactory run up to them. For what attacks to focus on doing, back aerial and up smash work best for damage output and up smash can hit both, while when they're knocked on the ground you can get them with Skewer pretty easily for pretty massive damage, though the other Hand can interfere so you have to be pretty careful about going for that.

Smash Ultimate - Blazer is an amazing recovery move

Omega Tyrant 2019-02-24 | When playing against Liyrex yesterday, he would sometimes try getting me with that glitch where getting bounced off the stage ledge with a really high base knockback move causes the knockback to get amplified and send you flying off the screen, which allows Blazer to kill you really early offstage if you miss the tech. However one time he tried it, Blazer's absurdly small ledge grab range came into play and caused him to miss the ledge when he was right near it, leading to him dying on his last stock barely damaged. Well I suppose it is fair play for trying to exploit that glitch...

Smash Ultimate - ELITE CHARIZARD ZERO-DEATH COMBO ON CLOUD

Omega Tyrant 2019-02-22 | This is truly the elite peak of Charizard gameplay in Smash.

In case someone doesn't catch on the title is sarcastic of course, when playing around with Charizard in Elite Smash some time ago, I got this "zero-death" against this Cloud that I found amusing and saved it to upload later, I have to wonder if he kept air dodging into me on purpose or if it was some galaxy brain mindgame he was trying to pull off. On a more somber note, that Elite Play sessions solidified for me that Zard isn't that fun for me anymore and he is significantly worse than my ROB/Dedede/Ridley, so don't expect much Zard highlights and an Ultimate edition of Charyuken is probably not going to happen for a long time if it ever does, especially with Fly's significant killpower nerf.

Omega Tyrant 2019-02-18 | In the continuation of the LWBDAN Alternative Takes series, here's another way for level 9 CPU Ryu to fall with no input on Suzaku Castle. This one is quite a bit more uncommon though compared to the earlier posted way, as Ryu Tatsu'd off into the walkoff about 20ish times before I got this means of victory. I originally envisioned Ryu doing something to fall into the pit of Suzaku, as an earlier video of mine shown CPU Ryus doing in a Classic run, so I kept trying for it through all the Tatsus and sure enough it eventually happened.

Smash Ultimate - Elite Smash: Omega Tyrant (R.O.B.) vs. Ray Kalm (Ganondorf)

Omega Tyrant 2019-02-15 | For once here's some unironically good matches I had in Elite; last night on Elite Smash I ran into Ray Kalm, one of the most renowned Ganondorf players in Brawl and Smash 4, and his Ganondorf proved to be quite formidable, with the resulting matches in this set being some of the best matches I've had on Elite, with all games in this Bo5 set being close. After running into Vinnie about a week ago and some other noteworthy names, I decided I'm going to start saving my replays against such players and uploading the matches, as long as the matches aren't particularly sloppy on either end. So hopefully I can get more good matches like this up soon.

Smash Ultimate - Luigi wins by doing absolutely nothing: Alternative Takes (Ryu #1)

Omega Tyrant 2019-02-14 | Here's the next addition to my LWBDAN Alternative Takes series, this time featuring our favorite street fighting hobo. Back when I was recording the original Luigi video, I thought it would be easy to get Ryu on Suzaku Castle but decided to do Ken on Suzaku instead while I tried Ryu on the unused but fellow Capcom stage Wily Castle, with that idea going successfully without much issue and getting me a new stage in the process while keeping the Echoes' deaths unique from each other. So for the Alternative Takes series, trying Ryu on his home stage was an obvious choice, and it turns out there's a fairly repeatable death with him here, you can probably replicate this yourself within 10 or so tries. And as I'll keep doing for these, I include the replay data in the beginning to show that these are indeed level 9 CPUs.

Smash Ultimate - Luigi wins by doing absolutely nothing: Alternative Takes (Piranha Plant #1)

Omega Tyrant 2019-02-11 | When originally recording Piranha's Plant match for Ultimate's "Luigi wins against every level nine CPU by doing absolutely nothing" video, the first time I took him to Pictochat I won by PP landing on one of the paper airplanes and getting taken away while it was stuck on the plane using Ptooie, however I forgot to save the replay, leading to me needing to redo it, where after a few hours I won again on Pictochat but through completely different means. I liked the new death I got but preferred the original, however instead of trying for potentially forever to recreate the original death when the video was already in editing, I used the clip of the new death I got and decided to try again later to recreate the original clip to upload as its own individual video. Thus it inspired doing this new "LWBDAN Alternative Takes" series, where I find alternative means of winning against level 9 CPUs with no inputs that are different from what happened in their original clip in the full LWBDAN video, and upload them as individual videos. With there being 77 different characters and 103 stages, with even more on the way for DLC, there should be a ton of material that will keep this series running for a long time.

Now for this specific clip, I have yet to recreate PP's original clip that inspired this series, however I found yet another means of beating it on Pictochat that I think is also really amusing, so here's the official debut of this Alternative Takes series. Since these will be individual clips, I include the replay data at the beginning instead of having the video start at the match's actual beginning, to stave off the usual "these aren't level 9 CPUs!" claims.

Smash Ultimate - Level 9 CPUs vs. Elite Charizard

Omega Tyrant 2019-02-05 | How do Ultimate's level 9 CPUs fare against the common strategy of every Pokemon Trainer player's Charizard on Elite Smash? It turns out not very good, as CPUs still don't really know how to punish Flare Blitz and won't just shield and smash you for it, while they'll get hit by it far more than they should, so you can spam it against them with impunity. Back in Smash 4 I made a video showing how the game's level 9 CPUs didn't know how to deal with Flare Blitz and would just let you Flare Blitz over and over again while not punishing you for hitting their shield with it, if they shielded it at all, so I decided to try it out in Ultimate, where it works pretty much the same. Now the CPUs may actually punish you occasionally for it in Ultimate, and once in a while may even do a double parry to some smash, but usually they let you get away with it and you'll end up hitting them more often than they hit you with a move that will kill in 3-6 hits, enough so that three stock victories against them with just Flare Blitz are very possible. I did a Squad Strike match against three different CPUs to show off that this isn't a flaw with a specific character AI rather than it being a general AI flaw.

Smash Ultimate - Luigi wins against every level nine CPU by doing absolutely nothing

I stated before Ultimate's release that I would once again do this, and overall it was of comparable difficulty to doing it in Smash 4. In some ways the AI is better, for example the AI will no longer KO itself on walkoffs outside of a few exceptions, and the AI is generally a lot better at recognizing and avoiding stage hazards, so you won't get stuff like the AI just jumping into Donkey Kong on 75M anymore. However the AI does some other things poorly, such as being overly aggressive, being overly cautious with stage hazards, and still having significant problems with stage navigation. The big difference compared to Smash 4 is that I was able to get so much more stage variety due to the much more expansive stagelist and the AI + air dodge changes making the CPUs more SD-liable in general; in Smash 4 I got victories on 20 unique stages, with 5 of them being walkoffs that exploited the AI's basic walkoff issue while some stages were used several times, whereas in Ultimate I was able to get victories on 58 unique stages, including 1 more unique stage for the finale clip, as well as not using any stage for more than 3 characters. I am extremely pleased I was able to get so much stage variety and avoid having to frequently resort to a same few "trump card" stages, stage variety was a big priority in the Ultimate version to avoid the 75M/Orbital Gate Assault monotony the Smash 4 version had.

As for the DLC characters, Piranha Plant released right when I was editing this video, so I was able to include him, while with the remaining DLC characters I will do them all in separate videos when their respective seasons are finished, like I did for Smash 4, so keep an eye out for that. Additionally note that all these matches were done in version 1.2.1, except for Piranha Plant, whose match was done in his initial release version of 2.0.0.

As for addressing the inevitable "debunk" attempts, I'll do so in a pinned comment instead of filling up the description. For a couple things I'll address here, I accidentally had Luigi as player 1 against Mario, DK, and Link, as I was doing the characters in CSS order and initially forgot about doing the player 2 thing, however the ports don't matter and I only have Luigi as P2 for thematic flare, so I left those matches as is as I liked how they turned out. I additionally accidentally had the final smash meter on against Samus and Dark Samus, however they had no effect on the matches and would have only made me lose anyway if they got their final smash, so I left those matches as is.

Smash Ultimate - CPU Chrom wont take this

Smash Ultimate - Falcon Kick vs. Level 9 CPU Marth on Great Bay

Omega Tyrant 2019-01-08 | I decided to see if I could recreate one of my oldest Melee AI videos, where I camped out the Melee AI by Falcon Kicking from one side of Great Bay to the other, which worked because the AI would just slowly walk along the top instead of trying to actually intercept. It didn't quite work that way in Ultimate, but the AI still has problems navigating Great Bay, which I discovered is still very much exploitable.

Smash Ultimate - Tense final stock with DBZ Finish

Omega Tyrant 2019-01-04 | When playing Elite Smash with Ridley, I fought this pretty good Dark Samus, and in this match with them on our final stock I got them stuck in Ridley's vortex and racked up huge damage in the process, but they were resilient and I couldn't finish them off before they escaped disadvantage, where they then quickly got me to kill percent with max rage for a tense ending, with it climaxing in a DBZ moment. It has been a very long time since I had a match end in a DBZ moment, and I can't ever recall an ending where both me and the opponent were going to get KO'd from a trade.

Smash Ultimate - Classic 9.9 Intensity Before Final Boss: Ganondorf (No Stock Loss)

Omega Tyrant 2018-12-30 | In each Smash game I've completed Classic mode with Ganondorf on the hardest difficulty without stock loss, so continuing it in Ultimate was a given. The difficulty works a bit differently in Ultimate however, as you build up the difficulty as you progress instead of just doing the whole thing at the max setting, so I achieved the closest equivalent by starting at the highest allowable difficulty (5.0), then reaching the maximum difficulty before the final round and thus having to fight the final boss at 9.9 difficulty, all while never losing a stock (which also means I never used any tickets nor continues).

Because you have to build up difficulty by playing well instead of just surviving, the Classic mode plays out a bit differently than in prior games. With this new system, the rounds are easier to just beat, but just winning them isn't enough as the amount the difficulty rises after each round is based on how well you played, so you have to beat each round quickly with minimal damage taken to be able to reach 9.9 difficulty before the final round. So unlike in the prior Classic modes where your focus is on survival tactics to clear a succession of arduous challenges, your focus is on speedrunning tactics to get through everything efficiently enough to reach the maximum difficulty before the final round. For one more big change, every character has individual fixed Classic modes specifically tailored to them, which removes a huge element of luck that was in prior games; you're still subjected to item and AI RNG of course, but you'll no longer be subjected to such significant match variance.

Now for the actual Classic run with Ganondorf; his Classic mode is based on him fighting a series of heroes, usually on a team against him, while he gets a significant knockback boost, so he can KO them all very quickly and be able to reasonably compete with the stacked odds. This huge knockback boost makes the bulk of the run pretty easy, as you can just smash your way through the team of enemies and their AI is too low-levelled to defend much against it, while against Shulk you can easily exploit his AI on Gaur Plains to advantage yourself. In round 5 against Palutena and Pit it can start to get tricky, but they're still really fragile to you and Skyworld messes up the AI a lot so it's still pretty easy to beat it with a high score. Round 6 against Link and Zelda is really the only difficult round before the boss, as the stage is really unfavorable and they will actively overwhelm you, while also actively edgeguarding Ganondorf's awful recovery. I had a few runs end against them from just dying, and getting a high score against them will be hard, but usually I could build up the difficulty very close to 9.9 before this round (even getting to 9.8 before it in this run), which means I just had to win it to get to 9.9 before the final round.

Then for Ganondorf's final round, it's a fight against Master and Crazy Hand. The Hands are more advanced than ever, with more elaborate attacks, a more elaborate pattern, and for the first time since Smash 64 they'll actually move throughout the stage and turn around instead of just staying in place. While they don't hit as hard as prior incarnations, their attacks are much more difficult to dodge and I end up getting hit a lot more often. As usual Ganondorf boasts a high DPS with his very powerful yet decently quick aerials, but his limited mobility makes evading attacks very difficult, and his recovery led to some really early deaths when I got hit offstage or hit without my midair jump. So it took a few runs that reached the Hands before I succeeded.

Overall this was the easiest max difficulty no stock Classic run with Ganon yet, with it taking me a couple hours to get a successful run. Maybe with other characters it will be more difficult, but with the huge buffs to Ganon, and the big knockback boost you get in conjunction with the emphasis on speedrunning rounds, it was a very favorable challenge to Ganon.
