Concerto for Contrabass Trombone/Tuba was composed by Brian Sadler and commissioned by Dr. Eric High. Dr. High is currently an Associate Professor of Music at St. Norbert College in De Pere, Wisconsin and is very active in the low brass community as a performer and published reviewer. Wanting to give the contrabass trombone more modern literature, he turned to composer Brian Sadler after hearing his “Soundtrack for Trombone and Orchestra” being performed in a recital. The idea of not having a piano accompanist, especially while on tours to multiple colleges, appealed to Dr. High and so he asked Brian if he could write something similar for contrabass trombone. The resulting piece is one that is full of excitement and the modern sound of today’s film soundtracks.
This being Brian’s third piece for solo and digital accompaniment (the other two being for tuba and trombone), he wanted to avoid the shortcomings of his previous ventures by having less tempo changes and a more prominent beat for the soloist to perform with. Ostinato 8th and 16th notes from the strings and groove-heavy drum set easily cut above the backgrounds to help keep the soloist on time. The main themes of the piece are introduced early and go through several variations to help keep things interesting. After a brief solo cadenza, the orchestra returns with one final round and after an unsettling rise, the soloist ends the piece with a final blast.

Greetings! This one has a bit of un-used music in the first scene with Blitz and Stolas. This was an artistic choice that the production team made as the absence of music can draw viewers deeper into the characters' emotions and interactions. It allows the dialogue and natural sounds to carry more weight and authenticity. Here for your listening pleasure is the entire score!
00:00 Stolas' Garden This cue has a few bits here and there that are not used, as mentioned above. Mainly, the cue bounces back and forth between Stolas' emotional theme and something more silly and aggressive for Blitz.
02:21 Stolas' Realization The argument gets more dramatic as Blitz lets slip a little secret. Stolas' theme goes through a darker variation.
03:01 Apologize? For this cue I reached out to Paranoid DJ to ask if I could use parts of his "Just Look My Way". I only used the accompaniment figure of the song but it still works as a great underscore for the conversation. You can also hear a variation on Stolas' theme that was also used in the previous episode, Full Moon.
04:25 Montage This was a fun cue that I used snippets of different melodies from previous episodes, most of them originally composed by Jefferson Friedman. See if you can find which ones!
06:00 Halloween Night Blitz goes to up to the surface with a bang and has a brief conversation with some local teens out Trick-or-Treating. I went for something stereotypically Halloweenish by adding a harpsichord and spooky low woodwinds.
06:22 The Party One of a couple of pop songs that I made for this episode. This was made entirely with loops from LoopMasters! A dark orchestral bit with choir pops up for the cut-away gag with Stolas and the cue ends with some light orchestral backgrounds. Blending the pre-made loops with new orchestral material was fun!
09:04 Stolas Onstage A gentle version of Stolas' theme for his reluctant onstage appearance. Sometimes cues like this have to help set up a song, in this case "Motherf*cker." That involves me figuring out the key and few chord progressions from the song so I can have my music match accordingly.
09:31 Blitz and Verosika This one starts with a lively tune as Stolas and someone else go off for a dance. Blitz climbs up to the balcony to watch and is joined by Verosika. Bits of her theme can be heard as well! The music starts out with the pop loops and they gradually peel off and are replaced with more and more orchestral elements until it's just sad orchestra remaining. 12:06 Stolas Having Fun This was my favorite cue of the episode! A slight latin feel takes over Stolas' theme before switching to Blitz's IMP theme. 00:00 Mammon's Theme This was a minor collaboration with Tom Cardy, the composer of "Juggling Iz Cool". He shared with me some of his drum tracks and sound effects and I incorporated them into this. The idea was to create some continuity between the this scene and the scene with the song later in the episode. It didn't quite turn out the way that I wanted it but I'm still happy with the end result. This theme has two elements that are used as a "leitmotif" for Mammon. The melody itself (which is a play on the theme from the opera "Carmen") and the heavy metal accompaniment (which takes on a sillier and more sinister forms when needed).
01:54 Fizz and Blitzø/Creepzo This is another new theme that I wrote for young Fizz and Blitzø. The theme itself takes inspiration from a theme from "How to Train Your Dragon" by John Powell, and really has an innocent and wholesome sound to it. This theme can be heard throughout the episode and is supposed to represent the feelings of why Fizz became a clown to begin with.
04:20 Fizzie Commercial Next, is a little circus march for the commercial. The key changes with each cut to a different Fizzy and keeps going up and up. You can hear bits of the melody from "Thunder and Blazes: Entry March of the Gladiators" which is probably the most well-known circus march. A quick funk beat comes in for the "sick, degenerate adults" joke and then goes into Mammon's theme before wrapping up.
05:01 "I Don't Wanna Lose" The theme here was taken from the previous episode with Fizz and Ozzie are talking in their apartment. This is just some light, playful background music that sets the tone. The baritone sax solo plays a solemn version of "House Of Asmodeus" featured in season 1 episode 7. I didn't write that song but it's a good theme for these two so it pops up throughout this episode as well as the previous. This cue wraps up with the "B" theme for Fizz and Ozzy, played by the french horns. This theme appeared towards the end of the last episode and is good for more serious, but still tender, moments between the two.
06:49 Ozzy calls Blitzø This is what we refer to as "The Office" theme in Helluva Boss. Written by Jefferson Friedman, it has appeared many times throughout the series, usually when the IMP team is in their office. I took the theme and gave it a lighter, more orchestral sound.
08:01 Red Carpet Event A new theme that was inspired by "Hooray for Hollywood," which is the stereotypical song played during red carpet events in Hollywood. It transitions into "Song of Asmodeus" when Ozzy and Fizz have a brief dialogue, and shortly returns before going into our second playing of Mammon's theme (the heavy and light version). Also, with Blizto's introduction to Mammon, the IMP Theme appears with heavy guitar and horns. This theme originally appeared back in the first episode and is also composed by Jefferson Friedman (I think).
10:23 The Glam Sisters Here we hear an orchestral version of "Klown Bitch," the same same song sung by The Glam Sisters later in the episode.
11:15 Meet'n'Greet Probably my favorite cue of the entire soundtrack. A new version of Mammon's theme is played by a solo saxophone and has a real sleazy sound to it. You can just hear Mammon stealing money!
12:47 "Heya Folks, Where ya From?" More red carpet music with a little bit of banjo to emphasize that one crowd member.
13:09 A Special Little Fan Fizz’s theme comes back, this kind of fan interaction is what it’s all about for him, making people happy.
13:30 The Fanatic Returns The crazy fan Creepzo interrupts the meet and greet with a theme of his own. This theme is also a little interchangeable with Mammon’s theme and the fan is perhaps a result of Mammon’s influence.
15:05 "You're a Bloody Legend" We see more of Mammon’s true self and his theme is getting darker.
16:01 Fizz's Panic Attack/Ozzy's Pep-Talk The tremolo strings represent Fizz’s trembling hand as he applies his makeup. This cue has bits of Fizz’s theme in a minor key as well as Ozzy and Fizz’s love theme. When Fizz reveals his broken horns, the music from the explosion during the previous episode’s flashback comes back.

Battle Rhythm not only has realistic sounding orchestral accompaniment but also includes sound effects and ambient background noise such as wind, rain, and thunder. The result is an immersive experience that transports the performer and the audience to distant land rife with war but brimming with hope.
Performed by Daniel Watt. Daniel Watt, a native of Colorado, is an active freelance musician across the Front Range. Mr. Watt serves as principal trombonist with the Wyoming Symphony Orchestra, the Steamboat Springs Orchestra and is second trombonist with the Fort Collins Symphony and the Cheyenne Symphony. He also performs with the Elevation Brass Quintet, the Denver Municipal Bands and acts as substitute musician with the Colorado Symphony, Colorado Ballet, the Denver Brass and Boulder Brass. As an educator, he serves as the brass teaching artist with El Sistema Colorado, low brass coach at Arapahoe High School and joined the faculty of the University of Wyoming in 2016 as instructor of trombone.

Dr. Patrick Lawrence, Associate Professor of Trombone, Euphonium, and Tuba at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point, maintains a vibrant low brass studio and hosts the yearly UWSP Tuba Christmas Concert.
Dr. Lawrence teaches two hands-on summer instrument maintenance and repair courses for students and band directors to prepare them for the inevitable wear and tear on their school instruments.
His recently published book, Solo Literature for Low Brass and Organ, is an extension of his doctoral study and is now available from Amazon.com. A reference to over 220 solos for trombone, euphonium and tuba, it is intended to encourage interest in this rich collaboration of instruments. He has authored articles and music reviews published in the International Trombone Association Journal, the International Tuba and Euphonium Association Journal, and Wisconsin School Musician.
An active performer, he is principal trombonist with the Central Wisconsin Symphony Orchestra and conductor of the Wausau Symphonic Band.
He completed the Doctor of Musical Arts degree from Arizona State University in 2009.
