Ocean Guest House and Garage | Architectural Model and Design Brian Oltrogge 2022-07-31 | I was asked to design a guest bedroom and garage for an ocean front home. Now, even our phones are equipped with 3D scanners, although not yet powerful enough to do what I show in the video, they soon will be. Calling into question why do we not capture our vacation memories in three dimensions? Since moving to the Detroit area in 2005, I have always enjoyed walks on the public grounds at Cranbrook. Ball Jar Light | Cast Aluminum from a 3D Print Brian Oltrogge 2022-03-17 | It seemed like a fun idea to cast a custom light fixture out of aluminum and use a canning jar for the glass. Everyday items can be taken for granted until we try to figure how they made.The multi sided cast proved to be an interesting problem to solve since it couldn’t be a simple 2 sided cast. Instead, a 4 part mold would be necessary to capture the six sided cage.In this video I am using a 3D Artist D Pro from JG Maker. This was provided to me free of charge in exchange for making this video and it is a very capable printer for the money. Stitch & Glue Kayak | New Concept Model Brian Oltrogge 2020-09-23 | I challenged myself to design a wooden kayak. This is a 'proof' model for my custom stitch & glue kayak so that I could test the geometry and think through the fabrication. I have always felt drawn to cedar strip canoes and kayaks but they tend to be a bit busy visually and can be fairly complicated to get right. Stitch and glue kayaks, on the other hand, can look too simplistic, but they fairly straightforward to build. Casting Aluminum Wheels | Old Timey Casters Brian Oltrogge 2017-06-22 | I thought I’d try my hand at casting some old timey wheels in aluminum. These were originally intended for a cart that would carry my foundry furnace (they still might eventually be used for this). They are extra wide for transporting something ultra heavy across the lawn where thinner wheels would just press into the soil. To cast thinner wheels, I'll simply use half of the pattern. For those of you who will ask why sodium silicate and not petrobond!I decided to use sodium silicate sand primarily for the texture it leaves, but also because I had minimal draft on the pattern (~5 degrees). Pat steak dry with a paper towel and apply Montreal steak seasoning to all sides. Add just enough olive oil to coat a medium cast iron skillet. Apply pan to heat. When oil begins to smoke, place steak in pan for ~3 minutes. Then flip the steak and leave for ~3 minutes. Add 4 tbsp of unsalted butter to the pan and spoon over the steak until nicely browned. Remove steak from heat and allow to rest while you make the sauce. For the SauceIn a medium pan, melt 4 tbsp of butter. Add the chopped onion and cook until transparent. Stir the minced garlic into the onions and then add the mushrooms. Continue cooking the mushrooms until they are soft and begin to brown. Add the can of Guinness, dark brown sugar and balsamic vinegar and reduce by half. Salt and pepper to taste.Drizzle Guinness, mushroom sauce over the steak and serve. Sauce is enough for 1 to 3 steaks depending on how much you like mushrooms. :)BTW- Don't worry, this isn't turning into a food channel. :) It seems like only a year ago I made the 5K plaque.... Making a Table for my Portable Bandsaw Brian Oltrogge 2015-11-24 | I designed this table for my Milwaukee portable bandsaw. It works great for cutting up scrap and cutting off the sprues for my aluminum castings. I know I could have just bought one, but I wanted to have the features I mention in the video. Namely to be able to clamp all around the edge of the table, have an integrated power switch, a base that was not prone to flipping over, and an ability to fine tune the blade 90 degrees from the table surface.

Platform CNC | 3D Printer Conversion Brian Oltrogge 2014-07-20 | This is the first print of my extruding head for my CNC machine. The CNC is currently sitting on a wobbly wooden drafting table so I apologize about the shakiness... I hope to have a better base for it soon!The extruder is a Bulldog XL with a E3D V6 hot end and custom mount. Temperature is monitored by a Gnexlab Gecs2tc1 extruder controller with a thermocouple upgrade. Gcode was done with Slic3r via Repetier-Host and controlled by Mach3.
