In the EU co-funded 5G-ROUTES project (https://www.5g-routes.eu/), VTT has demonstrated and evaluated a multi-technology solution that extends the coverage and capacity of mobile communications in maritime environment. The solution uses both 5G public and private networks, satellite communications as well as multi-hop technology. The equipment was installed in two vessels and demonstrated near the Ruissalo island along the maritime corridor between Finland and Sweden. Various use cases, such as video transmission, connected logistics and multi-user gaming were demonstrated.
