We came to this part of Inis Mór to photograph the Black Fort, but the Location had other ideas.

What followed was nearly an hour photographing one of the most incredible wave systems I've ever seen. A horseshoe-shaped cliff formation was funnelling Atlantic swell into a confined space, creating wave collisions that exploded vertically into the air.

As if that wasn't enough, strong winds were blowing waterfalls back up the cliffs, creating scenes that looked completely unnatural.

Along the way we photographed razorbills, cliff-top illusions, dry stone walls and eventually reached the Black Fort itself.

This was one of those days where the journey turned out to be far better than the destination.
