Here's my video of multiple oldtimers leaving the Hviezdoslav Square in front of Hotel Carlton in the historical centre of Bratislava on July 1, 2022 and starting the 2nd stage of the 500 kms of Slovakia (500 km slovenských) route, a race event, which started on June 29, 2022 in Tatranská Lomnica and ended on July 1, 2022 in Bratislava with the participants leaving on July 2, 2022 and the exhibition of the ČSD Class M 290.0 express train also known as "Slovenská strela" ending on the same day with the train leaving on July 3, 2022.
The open-road, motorsport endurance race "500 km slovenských" was established on June 20, 1937 in extremely bad weather conditions which however did not stop the drivers from racing. The event took place in Czechoslovakia from 1937 to 1938 with the original route being Bratislava - Malacky - Baba - Pezinok - Bratislava, which had to be driven 5 times in order to reach the distance of 500 kilometers. Later on the event either did not take place at all or it became part of a bigger event known as the "1000 miles of Czechoslovakia" (1000 mil československých). Currently the main goal is to reestablish the "500 km slovenských" event and to bring back the spirit of this legendary race.
Rýchlostné preteky "500 km slovenských" sa jazdili prvý raz dňa 20. júna 1937 napriek obzvlášť zlým poveternostným podmienkam, čo však účastníkov neodradilo od jazdenia. Podujatie sa konalo od roku 1937 do roku 1938 v Československu na pôvodnej trase Bratislava - Malacky - Baba - Pezinok - Bratislava, ktorú bolo potrebné prejsť 5x, aby sa dosiahla požadovaná odjazdená vzdialenosť 500 kilometrov. Neskôr sa toto podujatie buď nekonalo vôbec alebo sa stalo súčasťou väčšieho preteku s názvom "1000 mil československých". V súčasnosti je hlavným cieľom obnovenie "500 km slovenských" a priniesť späť ducha tohto legendárneho preteku.
