The Icon of Sin will be having nightmares from this. This is 500 attempts at sub 18 minutes by Looper (youtube.com/user/Mittarimato), where each attempt is displayed as a ghost of the player.
Each ghost will start each level at the same time, and the "real" player is the 17:55 run. Once an attempt fail, the ghost will stop moving and will not appear on the next level.

Yet another void glide discovery!
A tiny corner that has gone undiscovered for some time which enables the E1M8 type void glide. I figured there werent many height differences on this map so I wasnt surprised to find out I could easily run around to the exit.
For non-TAS this is an abomination, a combination of the worst parts of the 2 other void glides discovered for ultimate doom. First it requires the cooperation of a monster to get out of the void, but even worse is that the closest monster is a very uncooperative zombieguy (hence why I did a TAS run and leave the grind for someone else). Then second of course another switch press like E2M6 which is difficult to do quickly, except the wall infront of the switch is at an angle making it a bit more difficult.
Non-TAS I expect a time of under 20 seconds to be doable, maybe around 15 or so if someone is crazy enough, while the current UV-Speed record is 25 seconds. For TAS the previous fastest run was a 20 second with no monsters and 23 seconds in an episode 2 run, so the map is essentially cut in half with this trick.
Void glides are rather rare, for 3 reasons: the first being the map geometry required isnt very common, the second is that you usually cannot move very far because of height differences in the void so most of the time you are stuck, and third even if you can move somewhere theres no gurantee theres anything useful to do.
Karl Jobst did a video on void glides for ultimate doom found here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wWe8g8R7ZKI , so this is now the 3rd useful void glide for ultimate doom.
At some point there cant possibily be any more useful void glides to discover for the official doom wads as, again, they are not very common, so perhaps this might just be the last one, who knows... anyways, stop by next week for another one where we take a yet another map and cut it in half.
