soundstagenetwork | 50 Years of Wilson Audio's WATT/Puppy—from David to Daryl Wilson @soundstagenetwork | Uploaded September 2024 | Updated October 2024, 47 minutes ago.
The origin of Wilson Audio's WATT/Puppy dates back decades, to when founder David Wilson created the WATT, which stands for Wilson Audio Tiny Tot, as a loudspeaker to monitor his own recordings with. It was released as a commercial product in 1986. In 1989, the companion Puppy was released to increase bass output, and with it the WATT/Puppy combination was born. The WATT/Puppy went through eight iterations until it was discontinued in 2011.
In 2024, Wilson Audio released the ninth version of the design and called it The WATT/Puppy, in order to celebrate the company's 50th anniversary. It was the ideal model to make into a celebratory item because it's become synonymous with the brand. In this video, CEO Daryl Wilson discusses the history of Wilson Audio and the WATT/Puppy heritage, and he also gives insights into how this new speaker model was designed.
