Haiti and the Dominican Republic share the same island, the same mountains, rivers and climate. Yet they’ve developed into two very different countries. In this video we try to understand why, and how that separation process led both countries to kind of "hate" each other.
We explore the history of Hispaniola, from the Taíno native people, Spanish/European colonization all the way to the Haitian Slaves Revolution, the Haitian occupation of Santo Domingo, and the long-term effects of debt, ethnicity, and identity.
