I made a 5 kilowatt trike! It has a rear differential and is powered by Dewalt batteries. I got the 48 volt brushless DC motor from Golden Motor in Canada. It is rated up to 10 horsepower, and it can produce over 30 foot pounds of torque. They sell a liquid cooled motor, but I opted for the simpler fan cooling version. The sine wave controller sits on a massive heat sink and has a bunch of neat system protections. I learned about the differential on Cars and Cameras' "Amphibious Vehicle Build." The Peerless 100 Series is typically used for lawn and farm equipment. It is rated up to 150 ft. lbs. and it can almost turn on a dime. I attached a 40 tooth sprocket and brake rotor directly to the gearbox. Staton-Inc makes a wide range of sprockets that fit the four hole pattern on the differential. I'm using a hydraulic brake kit made for a mini bike from Go Power Sports. The brake lever has an electric switch that I connected to a tail light. The front 26 inch wheel, handlebars, and air horn are from local Omaha Bicycle Company. The Boss frame and Huffy seat are from Flatout Drift Trikes online. And the 13 inch rear wheels and pillow block bearings are from BMI Karts. I recently got a flux core welder and I'm learning how to weld. So the motor side is bolted together and the battery side is mainly welded. I designed this steel box to hold 9 large Dewalt batteries. The trike will run on three small batteries, but more capacity increases the range and is better for the individual cells. Plus BRUNO POWEEER MAN! I connect three of the packs in series to get 54-60 volts. Then up to three groups in parallel for over a hundred amps. I do not mix battery sizes, and I only use them when fully charged. I estimate the range to be at least 20 miles, but I've never completely drained the batteries. The trike weighs 185 lbs with a full battery box and no rider. Unfortunately it does not wheelie or do burnouts, but it is quiet and fast. Thanks for watching. If you have any questions, leave a comment, and I usually reply on YouTube.
