Just a note that you won't really hear the sound coming from the Gameboy's speaker, this isn't an issue with the Gameboy, rather it is my phone's overly aggressive noise reduction. Sorry about that!
I headed to my local flea market today in search of some games, and while I didn't find any good software other than sports titles, I found some good hardware. I picked up this Gameboy Color for $5 from someone who said it wouldn't power on. I took a gamble anyway and bought it, and it turns out the issue was simply a dirty switch, something a few minutes and a can of WD40 could fix. So now I have a fully working GameBoy Color in rather good condition!
