In moments of great change (transitions) we find ourselves using our personal and collective emotional capacity to adapt to the new conditions we are facing. This pandemic is both an unprecedented experience in our lives and it is occurring at a global scale, which means that we are both dealing with this alongside everyone else and that there is a lot of uncertainty about how to move forward.
In these days, we are challenged by our lives shifting from being outside to being at home. This means adapting and changing the ways we relate with our work and with our families. The boundaries we had before may no longer exist (work isn’t just at work and home isn’t just at home).
In our work, we are spending more time on the phone and on the computer, giving way to more instances of miscommunication and less time to fortify our bonds with our colleagues. In our friendships, we are being creative with ways to spend time with each other, but it often doesn’t compare to being able to spend time outside with each other. The hugs, words, and interactions we used to rely on are no longer the ones we can continue to lean on.
It is safe to say that we need to increase our emotional capacity and resiliency so that we can be better aware of what is going on for us and the people around us. We need to lean into the traditions we are already a part of, learn new practices, and explore what is supportive to us collectively so that we can strengthen our capacity to go through this transition together.
We will review important information about what goes on during transitions; go over concepts in psychology and neuroscience such as emotions, needs, values, trauma, and resiliency; and we will share some resources and practices that can support in increasing our collective emotional capacity.

Movement Ecology in times of Crisis: All Hands on Deck
A moment of crisis where things are unfolding and changing is one where conventional wisdom and status-quo approaches may not best meet the needs of an unconventional time. Instead, a moment like this requires that we be adaptable and resilient so that we can support our communities to weather what's to come. With the instability of global markets, business as usual approaches, and the government's sporadic and uncoordinated responses - we need to be ready and create a response where we can be in solidarity with one another.
In this moment we’re seeing various organizations and individuals responding to the crisis and making demands for paid-leave, universal basic income, rent freezes, and more. We’re seeing workers striking so that they can have basic protections to work during this crisis. We’re also seeing community members and groups hosting various online meet-ups to support people who are staying inside.
In a time when we’re being pulled in so many directions, it’s important to understand how these responses relate to each other and distinguish what is most supportive towards an effective multi-strategic response.

The purpose of this webinar is to share the importance of Mutual Aid as a strategic response to this crisis. This means orienting ourselves to new ways of engaging in organization and strategy. We’ll explain the difference between Mutual Aid and services. We’ll also be sharing some of the basics needed to start mutual aid networks for those that are interested in getting one started.

Film Synopsis: This documentary delves deeply into the mythological and cultural roots of the indigenous community of the Q’eros. The Q’eros inhabit a territory more than 5000 meters above sea level located between the plateau and Amazonian Regions of Cuzco in the South Central Andes. This “nation” of Andean men and women with extraordinary ways of life dedicate themselves to farming, agriculture, and exchange. They have preserved their ethnic identity for more than 500 years, surviving both the colonial and republic periods, as they project themselves into the future.
Their vision, which encompasses everything on earth and in the cosmos, has survived throughout time and has allowed them to maintain their way of life. They appropriate from modern elements only what serves them and without negating the main values and origins of their culture. This continuous vision of life has proven to be tremendously interesting to those that want to understand other living formations in the West.
The customs and beliefs of the Q’eros, which we have observed and can testify to over a prolonged period of time, has led us to a better understanding of cultural survival, memory, and history. First, we start with the management structure; the difference between command & control vs. self-management. The renewal of the last remaining Inca bridge of today shows us the remarkable vigor and liveliness of the Andean people and their culture. Through this bridge, traditionally called the Q’eswachaka bridge, we can witness how they conserve their techniques and renew their culture. This social event that occurs once a year over the Apurimac river, appears before our eyes as a ritual and as a sacred gesture conducted by the men and women of the surrounding territories.
