The street has been a subject of urban development, with sections like the block between First and Second avenues has been transformed into a pedestrian zone to create a more connected and walkable downtown area.

Pine Street is a significant thoroughfare in downtown Seattle, known for its bustling retail district and as a central hub of urban activity. Stretching from the waterfront near Pier 62 to Capitol Hill, Pine Street has undergone various changes to better accommodate pedestrians and cyclists. Recently, a section of Pine Street between Melrose and 8th avenues transitioned to a one-way street, westbound only, to create a safer and more pleasant downtown experience. This change is part of a larger initiative to reconfigure Pine and Pike streets into one-way roads, enhancing the downtown area for all travelers.
