Yamanaka Misaki : When using 24 fps for a stop motion shoot, I usually made realistic moves, but this time, I challenged myself to make 2D movement. In this stop motion shoot, I kept in mind to make the arms and legs in the right angle, despite the fast movement.

Kasubuchi Rio : It took so much time to compound Haruhi’s moves in 24fps and 8 fps. Since 24 fps Haruhi’s shadow was overlapping the 8 fps Haruhi, I carefully cut out the shadow without making it look unnatural. It took 16.5 hours to shoot, 24.5 hours to edit, and shot 164 frames.

Director Shinohara Kenta : It took 30 Hours to shoot this stop motion and shot 277 frames. The staff animator made smooth moves. There are little animators who can move the figures this smooth. This was a loop animation, so I shot it in the loop animation way. There are shock in loop animation, but in this shoot, they connected it so that I don’t know where the start and end is. Between cut1 and cut2, there were no reaction so I indicated that to the animator. When there is a reaction, it looks natural, so I like to add it to the stop motion. We deleted the rigs in editing. The editing staff always does a great job.

Fubuki Shirakami and Miko Sakura were filmed at 24fps to recreate the momentum of the otagei.

Kenta Shinohara: New work for the first time in 5 months. The choreography was done while watching the reference video. The dance motion was produced at 12fps. The bodies of Fubuki Shirakami and Miko Sakura, which imitate babies, are made using clay. It took 48 hours to shoot stop motion. I think it's a stable finish.

This time, I challenged in a character figure with limited motion called “Nendoriod”. I was excited to see what awaited me when I shot Tanjiro’s water breathing form in stop motion. For the effect of water spraying out of the sword, I used blue and white colored tape. In some cases, I did a montage.
In today's shoot, instead of making the dolls move, I concentrated on making effects like smoke and lightning bolts. For making smoke, I used cotton, and a minilight for the lightning effect, and some digital effects as well. However, I think using real material creates the vibe, and it's easier than CG. I hope you enjoy!
In making stop motion films, we must put many things into consideration. Animation techniques, stage setting, angles of the cameras and lights, editing and directing skills, and knowledge of the dolls. Sometimes, I wish it would be much easier to control the dolls like in the virtual world. However, there are amusing moments and miracles when there are constraints. That’s the fun part about stop motion that I love.

I made the eating movement by changing three of the figure’s facial gadgets. Once the cookie is shaven down, we couldn’t do a redo shoot, so I adjusted the eating speed and did a test shoot beforehand. I used 102 frames to make this stop motion.

Yamanaka Misaki : When using 24 fps for a stop motion shoot, I usually made realistic moves, but this time, I challenged myself to make 2D movement. In this stop motion shoot, I kept in mind to make the arms and legs in the right angle, despite the fast movement.

Kasubuchi Rio : It took so much time to compound Haruhi’s moves in 24fps and 8 fps. Since 24 fps Haruhi’s shadow was overlapping the 8 fps Haruhi, I carefully cut out the shadow without making it look unnatural. It took 16.5 hours to shoot, 24.5 hours to edit, and shot 164 frames.
