I definitely plan to continue building for live events, and that's a good portion of what I've uploaded in the past few years. However, I don't feel like my live event machines/domino setups are necessarily the best I have to offer, and I really want to be giving y'all my best.Here's the issue: I'm a college student at the moment, and I go to school out of state (like, across the country). On top of that, my workload in college is quite intense, and adding on research and other extracurriculars means I don't have enough free time to make bringing my machine materials and building in college worthwhile (and I have a roommate, anyway, which would complicate things even if free time weren't an issue). I'm not happy about the situation this puts my channel in, but it's a choice I had to make - attending this college was an amazing opportunity for me and I did not want to pass it up. So, what this means: Most of the year, I'm not able to build. I'll be home on breaks, but what building I'm able to do then is also limited by my spending time with family/friends while I'm in town and working on applications for internships/research. However, *I am still building* when I can, and there will be new content on my channel. I can't tell you it will be soon, but it is in the works. Keep an eye out for it, but know that it may not necessarily be soon (read: it may be a few months. I'm sorry :c ), because I really want to only be uploading homemade content that I'm truly proud of, which means on the order of months of work per video. And of course, I will continue to upload machines I build at live events, which I still plan on attending.*TL;DR: I am still building. There will still be videos uploaded to this channel. Then again, that's no excuse for not being able to find a few hours to throw this together. These are my two tables from Reactica 2019, the fourth year of a chain reaction event started by Alex Huang (Flash Domino). This year, Reactica transitioned to a machine-only event, and was hosted at the Tech Museum of Innovation in San Jose. As is always the case with these events, this was quite the experience. Seeing other builders work in person, and working alongside them, gets me excited about machines in a way that nothing else quite does. I hope our museum events can do that same thing for other builders and aspiring builders out there, too. Every new machine channel on YouTube is something to celebrate!We were visited at this event by TheContraptionKing. He came a long way to see us, and I am fully justified in saying that he is well on his way to being an amazing builder. His first machines already outclass many of my later ones, and I'm really excited to see what he can do.Regarding my machines: there's definitely less originality in my Reactica 2019 machines, but that's mainly due to the deadline and my greater focus on reliability and step count, as we were going for a Guinness World Record. The Literal Machine (w/ jackofallspades98) TheRGMGuy01 2018-08-18 | For those of you who are more involved in the community, you've probably heard phrases like "foreign object" or "autotilt" or "multi-use element" thrown around quite a bit. I personally am quite a big fan of wordplay, and some of those phrases can be taken literally quite easily, so JOAS98 and I decided we wouldn't just take them literally -- we built them! Literally. We built seven different commonly used phrases, but the video points out just five. If you think you've found the other two, let us know below!And hey! We made incredibly good time getting it built, and not only was it remarkably reliable (working on the 48th take!), it was also quite complex, which is often something builders sacrifice in time crunches. I continue to be impressed with just how well this machine came together, especially under constraints of the theme we had. Last of all, I've got to say: there's really very little out there like collaborating with another builder in person. I'm a very busy person, and I truly regret that I wasn't able to spend every waking minute working on the machine, because honestly -- I think this kind of experience is comparable to painting with Rembrandt, or designing a building with Pei, or solving an equation with Einstein. This ain't anything on the level of the stuff cwdreactions and TheInvention11 and jackofallspades98 are uploading, but whatever. It's something, and it's a fun concept. I know it may not be completely true to the whole spirit of a pong shot, but my machines fail enough as it is ;) The common theme is that each clip starts with a ball and ends with that ball landing in the cup. Simple.Sorry bout the crappy editing - my editing skills are a bit rusty (which is what happens when I don't upload for months at a time) - I'm a bit disappointed with some aspects of this video (poorly edited cutscenes, sloppy ball control in the machines, weird music timing, awkwardly long titles, etc.) but many of these clips were built almost a year ago so I'm happy to be finally uploading them, nonetheless. I can't guarantee I'll have more content up before school lets out, but I am working on it, I promise.
