Quick glitch demonstration TAS of SMB 4-4 Bowser not showing up.
In SMB, if all 5 enemy slots are all occupied, Bowser wouldn't show up. In SMB1, it's probably only possible in 4-4, and Mario has to wait for 3 continuous Bowser flames. I don't find it useful for speedruns, because the waiting time is too long.
Special thanks to 4matsy for his comment 5 years ago saying it's possible to skip Bowser with 3 Bowser flames.
