Basic Potato Gratin Recipe
Ingredients:
2 pounds of russet potatoes, sliced about 1/8th inch thick
2 cups heavy cream
1 1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp white pepper
1/2 tsp garlic powder
1/2 tsp dried rosemary
1/2 tsp dried thyme
Butter
Cheese (Gruyere or cheddar work well)
Steps:
Butter an oven-safe dish (I used a 10" cast iron in the video)
Add heavy cream to a bowl
Add all the spices and stir well
Wash, peel, and slice potatoes 1/th inch thick and add to the heavy cream, coat everything well
Add potatoes and liquid to the oven-safe dish
Optional: Place small pieces of butter around the top
Cover with aluminum foil
Bake at 350F for an hour to an hour and fifteen minutes or until potatoes are tender when poked with a knife
Remove the aluminum foil, add cheese to the top, place back in oven (uncovered) for an additional 15 minutes
If needed for browning the top, broil for 1 -2 minutes at the end
Chow down
