In 1986, a small group of scientists and futurists gathered to take seriously a set of technologies most people considered science fiction at the time: molecular nanotechnology, machine intelligence, radical life extension, brain-computer interfaces. Forty years later, most of these technologies are either working in labs or defining the actual research frontier.

For 40 years, we’ve backed the science and technology that legacy institutions call too early, too ambitious, or too far between the lines.
