Every year, 2.7 million people in the EU are diagnosed with cancer. 42,000 of those are brain tumour cases — and 36,000 people lose their lives to them annually.

President Ursula von der Leyen made a personal and political commitment: Europe can, and must, beat cancer.

In this speech, she outlines Europe's 5-pillar Cancer Beating Plan:

Prevention: HPV vaccination extended to boys and girls; 40% of cases are preventable
Research: €4 billion invested, including €600 million for research projects
Faster treatments: The European Biotech Act to simplify and accelerate clinical trial approvals
Better data: Expanding the European Health Data Space — with AI, while protecting privacy
Equal access: Every EU citizen deserves high-quality care regardless of income, location, or education
