Did you know that there are 4 different ways to add effects to your clip in Adobe Premiere Pro (and if you stick to the end I will give you a time-saving tip about the last one that you probably didn’t know about).
Let’s dive in and start with the most obvious one:
Open the “Effects” window, click and drag the effect you want to the timeline and drop it onto the clip.
The second way is to select the clip in the timeline and then drag the effect into the “Effect Controls” window.
The third way is to select the clip again, and then simply double-click on the effect you want to add.
The fourth way is to use something called an “adjustment layer”, and this is where I will show you a little bonus tip.
First, you go to the “Project” window and click “New item” at the bottom and select “Adjustment layer”.
Now, if you would add the “Adjustment layer” to the timeline and apply the effect there, it will affect all the clips underneath that layer but…
it will only add the effect to THAT “Adjustment layer” in the timeline and not the one in the “Project” window, so instead,
drag the effect onto the layer in the “Project” window and then maybe rename it so you know what effect you added. This way you can create a list with effects that you can sort in folders and then drag-and-drop the ones you want into the timeline whenever you need them.
(You can also add multiple effects to the same Adjustment layer)
