1) Shoot in RAW instead of JPEG

The key to a unique vintage look is in the filters and LUTS. So make sure you have something to work with. RAW format offers tons of image information to work with when you get to step 2

2) Use film emulation software

Companies like Mastin Labs, Alien Skin Exposure, and Presetlove have got you covered. Stop trying to start from scratch. These companies spend hours finding out how to give a filmic look to photos so why would you?

3) Ramp up the ISO

The ISO dial controls the sensitivity of your camera to light. The higher it is, the grainier the image. Even in digital form, grain kicks butt and can fool even the most seasoned film enthusiast.

4) Use vintage lenses

Using a vintage lens can add a touch of nostalgia to your images. Using these lenses at their widest opening introduces old-school faults like vignetting, which create an old camera image look.
