*In this video, 4 to 20 mA Industrial standard and its advantages are explained. And why the specific range (4 to 20 mA) is selected for this standard is also explained at the later part of the video.*
*4 to 20 mA standard:*
4 to 20 mA is Industrial Standard used for the analog signal transmission of sensor data such as Temperature, Flow, Level etc.
*Advantages of 4 to 20 mA Standard*
_1. Fault Detection (Live Zero):_ An unambiguous 0 mA reading indicates a broken wire or device failure, which is critical for safety and reliability.
_2.Excellent Noise Immunity:_ Current loops are highly resistant to EMI/RFI, ensuring signal integrity in noisy industrial plants.
_3.Long-Distance Transmission:_ The signal does not degrade over long cable runs, allowing for centralized control rooms far from the field instruments.
_4. Simplified Wiring & Lower Cost (Loop Power):_ 2-wire transmitters get power from the signal loop, saving the cost and complexity of running separate power cables.
_5. Simplicity and Reliability:_ The underlying principle is simple, robust, and has been field-proven for decades.
_6.Easy Conversion:_ The current signal can be easily and accurately converted to a voltage signal at the receiver using a single precision resistor (e.g., 250Ω).
_7.Digital Communication Capability (HART):_ Allows for advanced diagnostics, remote configuration, and transmission of secondary variables over the existing wiring infrastructure.
_8. Sufficient Power for Smart Devices:_ The 4 mA minimum current provides enough power (P = IV) to run modern, complex microprocessor-based "smart" transmitters.
